Uniti Serve running hot

Posted by: alanbass1 on 26 May 2017

I have my US positioned away from the main system on a shelf with decent 'airflow' around the unit. I have just noticed that it is running hot across the whole case, very much hotter than my other units. Is this normal or should I get it checked out?

I would say its normal Alanbass1. Mine also runs very hot when we have warm temperatures in the Summer, but just generally always a bit warmer than you kind of expect.

On really hot days I sometimes shut it down (via the front logo of course!) for a few hours when I'm not going to use my system.

Hope this helps.

No need to worry; I used to own a HDX and SuperNait ... the HDX was always much warmer!

Thanks. I have directed a fan at the SU which appears to have helped in this hot weather

Assuming you mean US, mine used to get really hot in the summer and it used to slightly worry me. I'm glad I got shot of the bloomin' thing - the Qnap is always completely cool, but then it has a fan so I suppose it should.

Naim generally use the aluminium casing of their devices as heat sinks for cooling, so they are intended to warm up to dissipate heat. Amps will shut down automatically if they overheat, but I'm not sure if the Unitiserve does this too. You can check the internal temperature of the hard disc and processor. Look in the browser interface under System/System Status and scroll to the bottom of the list. Mine is currently running in the mid 40s and feels only slightly warm to the touch, but it's in a reasonably cool location, well under the 35 degree maximum that Naim recommend.

My US typically runs at a temperturw of around 38-40C. The outer case is designed for cooling it.

The Userve runs hot, especially in Summer.
