Edit metadata function in Naim app gone
Posted by: Will on 27 May 2017
Updated the iOS Naim app (iOS 10.3.1) and Uniticore firmware a few weeks ago, and initially the new edit metadata function was there when I selected an album, selected "..." and there it was.
Noticed an album missing artwork today and went in to edit the metadata, and now that option doesn't show up. Checked multiple other albums; it's not there for any of them.
Naim app version is 5.6 Under "Product version" in the "About" menu on the app it says:
Application: 1.4.6904.0.0
Operating System: 1.3.1197.0.0
Anybody else? Any solutions?
It's a bug and Naim know about it. I expect it will get fixed in a future release.
In the meantime, if you look at albums in the Core in the app instead of the albums in the streamer in the app, you will probably find editing is there still. To get it back in the streamer view, you have to navigate back in the streamer in Upnp to where you select the Core as your Upnp server then go forward again to the album you want to edit. Once you know this it only takes a few seconds to do. It's a pain, but not that much of a pain.
Another way is to restart the app (I don't mean delete it and reinstall it). So you click the home button twice, move sideways until you find the app then swipe upwards to close it. Then select as usual and navigate back to the album you want to edit.

Thanks David.
Unfortunately, quitting the app (double click home, swipe, restart) doesn't fix the issue.
I'm not sure I understand your other technique. Honestly, though, the vast majority of my metadata is accurate so I'm happy to wait until Naim fix it. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't just me.
If you choose the Core, rather than a streamer in the Naim app, can you edit metadata that way?

in the naim app, you can choose between the streamer ( as ndx, nds, 272...) and the core. Try to choose the core inside the app and after look to the metadata.
My Core does not have an internal drive, so everything has been streaming from my NAS all along.
And I don't have an external streamer; only the core, so I don't see an option in the app to change between the core and a streamer. Maybe this is an option I have missed and is present but I am not aware of it?
I am about to go out for the evening, so let me have another go at explaining.
In the app, in the home screen you have your rooms, which is a Core and one or more streamers.
If you select the Core and then albums you get screens full of cover art. You select one and then tap on ... And metadata editing should be in the drop down list.
If you select a streamer, then Upnp, you need to go back in that view to the screen which shows you a graphic of the Core. You do this by clicking on the little left facing arrow on the top left of the albums screen. That will take you back to a set of folders (albums, artists etc) and if you tap the arrow again you should see the Core icon. Select that which will take you back to the page of folders. Select albums and that takes you to the screen of albums artwork. Tap your selected album and ... You should now find metadata editing in the dropdown menu.
i think the streamer views in the app forget that it's a Core and so you get the Unitiserve options. When you reaffirm that you are talking about a Core, the app remembers until next time it forgets!
If you haven't got metadata editing even if you go to the album through the Core room in the app, then I should try restarting the Core.

It's nothing to do with whether there is an internal drive or not. If you go into the Core in the app, you should be able to edit metadata for anything that was ripped with a Naim server originally, wherever it's stored.

Hmm ok so if you are using the Core as a Ripper/hard drive into a DAC then you won't have a streamer in the app! In which case my only suggestion is to restart the Core. I don't recall anyone reporting that the Core had lost metadata editing while we were beta testing, so I'm not sure what's going on here.
