How to power a NAC82......

That is the question. So, keeping it all "olive", should it be:
1 x Hicap or 2 x Hicap or 1 x Supercap
Discuss!

If I understand correctly, you are effectively saying that 2 Supercap LM317 regs beat 4 Hicap LM317 regs. And yet the received wisdom is "the more regs the better". This does bear further investigation (involving more expenditure and more vino collapso!
).
The gains you get with 4 rails from the 2x Hicaps is tempered by deviating away from the normal Naim ground scheme. Probably one of the reasons using just 2 rails from the Supercap betters the dual Hicap arrangement and then using all 4 from the Supercap is better still.
Just get the Supercap
Yes, the grounding arrangement when using two HC had occurred to me. However two LM317 regs in a single Hicap should behave little or no differently to two LM317 regs in an SC. Bears further investigation - might even have to borrow a 'scope from work and have a look!
And it would be amusing to try "subjectively" comparing a HC with an SC driving the 82 and using my NAHA+HC/ Senns as the power/spkrs side. Unfortunately further investigation will have to wait, my brief vacation is over and I have to go back to work, where the completion of a stack of paperwork awaits me!

Yep - circuit topology is the same. More space in the Supercap so the regulator boards sit further away from the rectifiers and transformer which helps. Can't remember now if the transformer is bigger in the Supercap compared to the Hicap too. Enjoy the paperwork ![]()
Maybe Supercap is better, but HCDR with a Naim Powerline sounds good on my 282.
I know one forum member who didn't think Supercap DR was the ideal match for his then 282, he much preferred HCDR.
And another member who though SCDR was wasted on a 282, it really should be paired with 252.
