Ridiculous goodness of "Remote" App on iPad

Posted by: winkyincanada on 10 August 2011

Just wanted to share how awesome the iPad app continues to be for controlling my Mac Mni and iTunes setup. No query, just gloating.

Agreed, but still missing some important browsing features.
If I start browsing by composer or genre (or anything else in fact) I directly get a big list of songs, rather than being able to narrow down my search through another criteria.
I'ld like to be able to do something like : Composer -> Album -> Artist -> Song.
For instance if I pick Schubert as a composer I get a big list of +2000 items that I have to scroll through...

Anyway I agree that [iPad + Mac mini + iTunes + nDAC + more naim stuff] is an absolutely great combo for lazy people like me who don't want to have to stand up to put the next CD on !

Try J River - the scope for constructing browsing schemes of your own choosing is absolutely fantastic.

A tad off topic but is there really no way of controlling my seve/dac/252 from my iPad?
Any help appreciated.

With this component you can use Remote App with Foobar, brilliant:

You can easily configure Foobar as a UPNP Renderer/Control Point/Server.  Then you can use Remote App to control your UPNP Server.

I neglected to add that he is also working on a component for AirPlay capability with Foobar.  Maybe I will get an AppleTV?!?!

I just wish I had ripped all my iTunes lossless, and I might use it more often, particular if in the future Naim streamers work with Airplay.

Actually come to think of it, could I convert all my flac files into something that iTunes would work with and ideally keep all the tagging?

Why use iTunes at all?  But yes you can.

Steven,
You could convert all your FLAC to AIFF files. ITunes will be able to see the tags.
Now assuming you are streaming SPDIF from your PC ( MS or  Apple) into your nDAC you can enjoy your iTunes interface with Naim audio.
DBpoweramp will allow you to convert between file types such as FLAC and AIFF  ( probably many other programs as well) without any loss of data.

Remote is indeed an awesome app. I use it on my iPhone 4. It works much better than Naim nStream, which I've tried with NDX. I've configured Remote to work seamlessly with foobar2000 on Windows 7 based PC-setup. Thanks to foo_touchremote plugin, this is possible.
