Naim Uniti Qute as a source for Supernait ?

Posted by: Naimologe on 11 August 2011

Hi folks,

I'm using the supernait and am looking for something to use a NAS, Internet-Radio, TV and my BD-Player. TV+BD are already on the supernait, but the rest doesn't even exist. So I was wondering, whether the Qute could be connected only as a source via its digital out (BNC) to a digital in (RCA) on the supernait. Has anyone experience with this solution?

The NDX as a alternative might be fine, but ist still way too expensive for me. The Qute seems to be a good and all-integrated source for my setup.

What do You think?

Best regards

The Qute would work just fine with a Supernait.

Though have you considered something like a Sonos? A number of fourm members are using them (inc myself) with SN with great results, and the ability to use Spoity is a massive bonus!

Thank yout. Sounds interesting, maybe I have to get some infos from the manufacturer. But what I don't like is, that it's white and whithout a display. But that might even not be that important.

Does anyone use the qute on the supernait? Does the remote control from the qute work fine with the supernait?

I hide mine out of site and use an ipad (you can use an ipod/iphone touch too) as the controller - no screen needed.

Hmmm, that might be the right way. Does it play FLAC (can't find it on the manufacturers homepage)?

I was wondering the same thing. I tried sending them an email asking about it through their form, but it doesn't seem to work, so I don't think the email ever goes through.

I have a UnitiQute with a 250.2, but have been thinking about going to a 202/HC with the 250 and selling the Qute. I don't really use the digital part as much as I use analog for vinyl.

Yes they play FLAC albeit only CD quality not the high resolution type - so it's perfect for ripped CD's

Then that would not be a replacement for my Qute as a streamer, as I have 24/96 FLAC files I stream sometimes.

I use the Qute as a source via BNC to Rca input on my Supernait, it works great! Even better with the Nstream app.

This is a little old but I'm charting these same waters myself right now, and as for Qute playing FLAC, the Naim website describes the files supported as including:

"FLAC and WAV (up to 24bit/96kHz via UPnp and USB only)"

I read that as supporting 24/96 FLAC but it is a little ambiguous.

After having compared the digital output of various streamer devices (sonos, CA NP30, digital ipod docks, etc), I can say that the quality of the digital output from the qute was king of them all. Plus, if your digital streamer changes in the future you have a complete player/amp to use in a second location.
