Viewing HDX content on networked PC

Posted by: Jason on 15 August 2011

I have a strange phenomenon occuring when I try to view the HDX on my laptop.

I run windows 7 and on looking under other libraries in Windows media player, it shows my HDX.  I can go into this and view the HDX and its content.

Now I can open up that content and actually play music stored on the HDX through my laptop if I want to listen to it on my laptop but the strange thing is that while I do this, the windows media player that is playing the music seems to keep adding the same tracks onto the windows media library time and time again.  So when I open up an album to look at the tracks on media player, I can see anything between 3 and 14 tracks of the same song on the album.  So instead of listing track one, for example, once, it lists it many times and then goes on to do the same for tracks 2, 3 etc.  So for a 10 track album it shows anything upto 130 tracks on that album.  Its the same tracks but just repeated time and time again!!

Anyone had this issue or any idea why this occurs?

Are you sure the music is the same on all tracks, not just album title and track name.

Probably a Windows Media Player issue - I am able to play files from the Mac finder accessing the internal Music Store share point (Music) without a problem.

The same applies to iTunes.

It sounds like WMP is adding the track + all subsequent tracks as a playlist, and, every time you add an individual track Tn, it is also adding Tn+1, Tn+2, Tn+3...etc

I think it is most likely a wmp issue but can't work out how to solve it.  The tracks are not duplicated on the HDX nor have I attempted to create any playlists on wmp.  The tracks just duplicate of their own accord when I click into the HDX and open its library on wmp!

Yes I can click on any one of the duplicated files of the same name and it will play the correct track.  The track name always corresponds to the correct song, It's just that it is repeated many times.

Not a fix for WMP but if you want to play your HDX files on another PC why not use windows explorer to show the HDX directory tree and play from there - you still have WMP play the file but you are no longer having it try and index it into its library

Thanks Pure Hifi, tried this now and this seems to be the best option.  The reason I was playing around with WMP was it provides the option to create a playlist from the HDX music files and then burn a disc of the playlist.  Wanted to be able to do this so I can make up some CD's for the car!

Seems that I should be able to do this still from windows explorer route aswell, so problem solved!!

Thanks for the suggestion.
