I'm thinking of starting from scratch . . .

Posted by: Bart on 15 August 2011

In preparation for buying a high quality two channel Naim XS-based system (to supplement my iPod / dock / "boom box" - type system), I'm thinking about starting my music library from scratch by buying used cd's and ripping them to wave.  I currently have ~200 gb of flacs obtained from various sources by trading with friends, but little of it ripped by me to ensure high quality rips.

To this end, can anyone recommend a good source (I'm in the U.S.) of used cd's at reasonable prices?  I will focus on rock/pop/jazz/blues.

I know that this could be a daunting task to rip a few hundred cd's, but . . . maybe I'm being o.c.d. and/or crazy

I've ripped 2000 of things - you just stick it in and leave it there while it rips.

Vortexbox/Naim UQ/Eclipse TD508 speakers will sound better than a boom box.

"All Your Music" is a good place to buy CDs; I use them mail order to UK.

Otherwise just get 'em through the Amazon.

As you are ripping them then I'd get some covers from Covers 33 or the US equivalent so you can throw away those dreadful jewel cases. It makes it really easy to store your CDs in a box.
