Strange Promo Single

Posted by: fatcat on 16 August 2011

I've come across a strange Phil Collins promo single. It's 10" with one track pressed centrally on the disc. The other side is blank. Label is white with artist and track printed.

Anybody any ideas what it is.

A white label, clearly.

If only all his records were like that

But what is it.

What is the track?

What does the matrix info contain?

I have a Hendrix so-called "white label" - it's a live recording 12" LP with just a white label - nothing printed on it at all, in a white sleeve. From memory, without fishing it back out, I don't think it had much of anything in the matrix area, either.

It's very well recorded for its time, so must be from a sound desk, but I know nothing more about it.

I have never been able to match it to anything "known" or "catalogued", at least so far.

In my research endeavours, I have discovered it to be a fairly undocumented area, that of unmarked promo/white label/bootleg releases.

(I appreciate it's difficult to "document" unmarked items, but even on a simple level of track listings, it would at least be something!)

Of course, some are more clearly marked and are "obvious" such as a forerunner LP I had to the Sex Pistols "Never Mind the Bollox" album - this was called "No Future UK" and was clearly stamped DJ/Promo Copy - same tracklist as NMTB bar 2 track changes, iirc...

Yours sound like it may be a DJ/promo copy?......

We can't read the label from here.

Thanks for the replies.

"Phil Collins" and "Hit and Run" on the label. I've discovered Hit and run isn't the name of a song but a music publishing company.

Reminds me of Johnny Winter's double album "Second Winter" a double album with only three sides of music on it! (and it wasn't a mis press)

Jet,

This is a double vinyl album.

You can only play three sides as the 4th side has some great art work on it but no grooves.
