uniticore : still problems , bugs, metadata issues or users satisfied ?

Posted by: French Rooster on 31 May 2017

From January to the beginning of may, a lot of topics were referring to problems encountered with the core, like bugs or metadata missing and other issues. I am curious to know if the majority of core users today are satisfied or not with this product. There is still no reviews of this product in audio magazines, 6/7 months after the launching.  Curious, not ?     What are your experience today?

Not curious at all. New product, some bugs. What's the big deal?

A lot of work goes on in the background, including Beta team testing, which I'm sure you are not aware of.
So my advice is - just listen to some music and let Naim sort it out. It's not ready until it's ready.

Life is too short to waste time speculating.

Hi hoping someone can help, running the old Uniti Server T2. The last few cds I've added won't add the metadata, no cover, no artist, no track details. Even trying to correct it manually is difficult as I keep getting an error message. Anyone suffering the same issues.

I will try.

Can you give more details - which CDs?

Is your UnitiServe connected to the network OK? It needs a wired internet connection to read ALL the metadata from the net. CDs do contain any metadata themselves

It does sound as if it might have lost its internet connection. In the DTC or N-Serve for Mac you can do another online lookup and see if it finds the metadata.

I have no comparisons for you Keller, but I did order a Core this week.I am wondering if the recent update will be on it already,or maybe it depends on how long it was sitting around?I have not received any word as to when I can expect delivery yet.

The Core is much more in line with my original expectation now than it was for the first 3 months after receiving it (early Feb), entirely a result of the software revisions.

In terms of enjoying the music I have no issues at all. The music sounds just right to me.

Previously I ran a dedicated mac mini with audirvana s/w via USB to a DAC. Now its the Core into the DAC and this is a much better set up both aesthetically and as a music store which was a key objective for me.

My meta data editing has been limited to finding correct album art for CDs which works fine. Doing this manually for downloads remains a disappointment.

Remaining bugbears are all to do with functionality and usability of the App. A few changes and tweaks would make it very good but I’ve read in other threads the “Director(s)” decide on functionality and their view appears to be askew to actual customer needs.

Hi, this is my first post here, and the Uniti Core is my first Naim purchase. I've had mine since just before the most recent firmware/app update and I'm very happy. So far I've ripped about 700 CDs, and it's working very well. I had a couple of minor niggles which Support at Naim were quick to help with.

I have it plugged into a DAC, and then to my amp and I find the sound quality a big step up from the CD player that is being replaced. A lot of that must be down to the DAC, but it's good to know that the Core is feeding the DAC quality data.

The app is fairly no-frills, but works well generally. I would hope in time that we will be able to edit the metadata a little more, and on downloaded content, but as I bought the Core to get my entire CD collection into a place where I can easily access it, that's a lesser concern for me.

Build quality seems excellent, set up is straight forward, and the sound quality is first rate. No complaints from me. The only thing I would say to those considering purchase is that it is best to think about the Core as you would a computer (as it is one) rather than a trad piece of hi-fi. For example, it can crash, and so switching it off and on again is something that you will have to do from time to time. But that's the terms of engagement for high tech I think. In short, I'm very happy with my purchase and it's doing all I hoped it would.

I'm very happy with my unitiserve with a certain UK made linear PS. When I enquired about the Core I was told by Naim to stay with what I have. I love  the ripping simplicity and can't be bothered with a PC for such duties. It's also an excellent visual match with the rest of the system I also use a QNAP for backup duties.

I'll also be sticking with my UnitiServe SSD.  I had a demo of the US vs. Core (uPNP) a few weeks back, and to my ears, the Core that I heard on demo sounded 'muddy' and almost as if a veil was hanging in front of the music.

Don't want to be someone who knocks the Core, and I'm excited that there are some happy users out there, however until I hear something better than I already have, then there's no reason to change.

I've had a Core on order from last year (pre-price increase), and have been waiting for the product to develop further, however based on the recent audition, have cancelled my order.

ATB. George.

you have certainly the longdog mcru linear ps for the serve...?  if it is that, it is one of the best and i think that this combo beats the core.....

is it a naim dealer or naim audio who advised you to keep your unitserve / linear ps?   i am not accustomed by such honesty by audio dealers. I also have a serve/ linear ps and was wondering before at the core....

You might say that but I couldn't possibly comment! Billy Vee did the deed.
