Naim UnitiServer SSD vs. Naim UnitiCore - difference in the way it sounds

Posted by: MangoMonkey on 01 June 2017

Starting a thread so folks can publish their thoughts around how the two sound via upnp/spdif into streamers/dacs.

We've got enough other threads complaining about meta data editing capabilities - would like to keep this thread focussed on differences in sound, if any.

You would think the linear PSU would make a difference - so any comments around setup would be helpful too.

i am interested by this topic like you. Curious that few people are. This topic was done 6 months ago,  but the core received a lot of updates since, so i think it is worth  opening this topic again.

Have just finished posting audition impressions of US vs Core on 'Uniticore still problems bugs metadata issues or users satisfied' thread when I just saw this thread.

To recap, I've had a demo of US-SSD vs. Core (uPNP) in same Naim set up that I have, and to me, the Core sounded muddy and veiled.  I'll be sticking with my US-SSD and have cancelled my order for the Core.

Interested (and excited) to hear that many folks are enjoying their Core, so wondering if there is still a unit-to-unit variability?

very nice system on your profile...I have made the same decision as you: keep my unitserve and put a big linear ps on it ( uptone audio js2).   I never heard about the vee 1 linear ps, i will explore...i am curious about it.

Puzzling results. I would have expected, if any, minor differences between the US and the Core when used as UPnP servers. Perhaps a case for SIS's measurements of interframe timings?
