Naim App - Volume Control

Posted by: Burgy100 on 03 June 2017

I have just used the volume control ND5-XS and now it performs in a manner I am completely not used to. Before it would turn up or down the volume instantly, now there seems to be tremendous time lag with small amounts of increase in sound and frustratingly so you may tap the up bottom so many times then all of a sudden it will decide to turn itself up and the mute button can take a couple of seconds to mute itself. Anybody experienced this please ?

Maybe a restart of the app will fix this?

I have tried that to no avail Klout10, but thanks for the quick reply.

I assume that you have also switched off the ND5 and network router?

Nope...will try that

No such problem here as yet with my 272, but I use a wired connection. Are you wired or wireless [@mention:26908937823788547]?

  • Well I have tried rebooting both ND5 and router to no effect Klout10 and I'm wired Finkfan. Don't get me wrong it works but it's oh so slow to turn the volume up and down and this has all happened after the last app upgrade!

Rebooted 282 as well....

This is something we've encountered during the Beta testing of the app and it's been fixed a while ago.

What is your ND's firmware and your app's version (is it iOS?)

app version 5.6 and iOS and ND5 4.4.00

Current versions then. A bit of a puzzle.

May I recommend that you completely uninstall the NAIM app. I've noticed that upgrades sometimes get corrupted and a fresh upload may be needed (this is not a norm, but something we've seen during the testing).

You may also try to upgrade to the latest firmware 4.4.70 (although I use 4.4.0 and all works well) but that should not be needed in this case.

I presume that the rest of the network is fine, streming and iRadio work fine. Is that a correct assumption?

What version of iOS are you running? Could it be an issue with the latest version? I haven't updated my phone yet and all works fine but I though I'd seen on here that some were having issues with the app after updating to the latest version of iOS. I might be wrong.

My 272 occasionally loses tracking of the volume in the app. 272 & ios up to date.

Err, the ND5 XS doesn't have a volume control.  Do you mean that you're controlling the 282s volume using the RC5 link from the ND5?

In which case try turning the whole system off, unplug and re-plug both ends of the RC5 cable, then restart the system.

I agree with Adam in that we saw this problem on a beta app revision,  my system is NDX-SN system automation via RC5 link.  It was finally fixed by an all new revision;  the latest 5.6 is a child of that beta.

Why it should suddening start playing up after being OK for a while is a mystery,  I would definitely uninstall it (delete)  force a restart on the iOS to loose any bad links,  press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time until the Apple logo appears,  install a new app & your settings.

Sorry people been away whooping it up over night....well I have found my problem and I only have myself to blame! It's my network infrastructure with a crappy unmanaged switch. I was using OS X backup plus to backup up my download section of my Naim US to WD NAS. It was hogging my network so much that the reaction time for anything to happen was oh so slow! Also using my Muso and Qb at the same time as doing this the sound continually drops out, so there you have it. As usual thanks for all your replies and advice.....this forum always delivers help.
