Hi

I have iPad's and stream to my superuniti, muso and qb's fine.

I have just been given an Amazon Fire - 8GB and wonder if I can get the Naim app onto it and then it will have a use.

I've heard that the app can be side downloaded but haven't a clue.

Can anyone help ?

Hi Tony, did you manage to install the Naim app on your Amazon Fire?

Hi Charviljon,

No, I didn't get any feedback - yours is the first reply.

If you can help that would be great.

cheers

Tha Amazon Fire is Android based, but doesn't run as a full blown Android OS including the Google Play Store, which is what you need to find the Naim app. If you search online you will find workarounds to put the Play Store on a Fire, but they are not officially supported by Amazon.

Whilst I have not installed the Naim application on a Kindle Fire I have sideloaded other programs successfully.

You can install an Android program from an APK file on a Kindle Fire.  You have to make the 'Allow Installation of Applications From Unknown Sources' option available and then transfer the APK file onto the Kindle and open it using a file manager like ES File Explorer or similar.  It will then install.

You need to get the Naim application as an APK file.  An APK file is the file that an Android uses to install an application.  If you have another Android device which has the Google Play store working you can do this by installing the Naim application on that device and then use an application backup program which will extract the APK file, there are many to choose from in the Play store.  There are various ways to copy the file to the device, email is simple and effective and doesn't require anything else to be installed!

An application installed in this way won't update automatically as this is done by the Play store, so you have to repeat this process when you need to update.

I've been running the Naim app on the Fire for some time. If you like to dabble, follow the instructions in the link and you'll be able to install any app from the google play store. As usual with things like this there's always a risk of bricking the device but it worked ok for me.
