Connecting Headphone Amplifier to a Nait XS Question

Posted by: plexxx on 13 June 2017

Hi,

I've read some forum posts here about how to go about connecting a headphone amp to a NaitXS so I went to a local hifi / electronics shop and had a DIN to RCA cable wired up to the Monitor DIN pins. I connected it all up tonight and things seem to be working but I was wondering if there was another way to do this.

I have my source connected to CD RCA in. The DIN to RCA cable for the amp is connected to the HDD Output which goes into the RCA input on my headphone amp. When my headphone amp switched on I get audio into both the speakers and headphones when the CD source is selected. If I mute, the speakers mute but not the headphones. I can keep it this way but I thought there was another way to control it via the Mon button on the remote but its not doing anything. If i select any other input beside CD I get no audio.

Am I doing it right or is there another way to do this?

I have my Graham Slee solo Headphone amp connected to the AV Din socket.

Hi Steve

Do you need to mute the naim amp when listening with your headphone amp? If you don't mute it, doesn't music also come from your speakers?

I also use a suitably wired DIN to RCA connected to the AV DIN socket for my Headphone amp.  I believe it would be the same for the HDD socket.

The output is a record-out so if you think about it, the amp has no idea there's a headphone amp connected.  Simplest thing is simply to mute the Nait, and enjoy your headphone listening as you're doing.  Job done!
