202 Supercap question

Posted by: Fueller on 13 June 2017

I use a 202 200 and have just got a good deal on a used supercap. Now one day this will be used with a 282 252 or superline, but question for now is can I use the second 5 pin din output  via slic lead as a napsc upgrade? I know it's 24v and napsc is 18v but this doesn't seem to be a problem for the headline. This same question was asked in 2011 on a 202 supercap thread but not answered..

sometimes, when i read some questions on the forum, i ask myself :  what are audio dealers for?  just to take money ?

Perhaps you have bought your equipment second hand and i understand in that case. So if it is the case, if i were you, i would take my phone and phone naim dealers around your house or city.

When i bought my nds and unitserve, my dealer have not the little idea to install my equipment, computer audio is not his specialty. So i take my phone and call some other naim dealers and finally got my responses.

Yes Supercap bought privately second hand. Will ask Naim direct and report back, if this configuration works then would be quite a neat solution for a 202

No you can't. The Supercap is designed to power only one component. You'll need a separate napsc. I saw one for sale the other day for £100, so it won't break the bank.

No, it won't work. The Supercap digital logic PSU outputs at 15V whereas the NAC202 digital requires the 18V supplied by a NAPSC.  15V won't be enough.  Whatever you do, DO NOT try to use the second 24V output to power the NAC202 logic circuit as damage may well result.

My apologies - i thought the OP was wanting to power a Headline not the 202 NAPSC input so Richard is right. I've deleted my erroneous post.

Thanks Richard et al, that's pretty clear then. I have a napsc just not a spare iec on the hydra so would have been convenient, no big deal.

Just so I can understand this thread right, are concluding that a Supercap would be wasted on a 202?

The NAPSC is an excellent upgrade for a 202, i have one, and borrowed a NAPSC, i doubt it will be going back

I would say so, but read the first line of the OP.

I could be the odd one out here but I have a preference for running my 202 without a NAPSC, but that is into a 250.2 using HC.

It sounds faster and more energised to me.

The thread concludes that only one output of the Supercap can be used with the 202. Whether that is wasted or not is a different question and I haven't listened to it properly yet to answer.
