Metadata cover art suggestions?

Posted by: Paulie on 29 June 2017

For a newbie - any hacks/methods to add cover art to a DOWNLOADED album on the Core?

Thanks.

Yes, just use a tool like MP3Tag or others to get the metadata on the Core sorted ...

Sort out the art and other metadata while the download is on your computer, then copy it to the Core. Dbpoweramp is very good.

As a Mac user, I use Metadatics to edit metadata, including artwork, on downloads. I think it's good practice to do all this while the download is on my computer, but doing it after transfer to the downloads folder is OK too.

I have installed on my mac "meta" app (available at the app store), very simple and easy to use.

I'm just now converting to the Naim streaming approach with a Uniti Core, ND5XS and now playing with a Qb for fun. My dear old CDX and XPS are on consignment in favor of updating to a more modern approach. So far the Uniti Core and ND5XS are a treat! Well done, Naim.

Having a bit of trouble with managing the meta aspects of some of my downloaded files.

Can you be specific as to which "meta" app on the store that you are using? There are several.

As per CHRISSU (above), I'm a Mac user and have found Metadatics (available on the App Store) to be good so far. I must add, however, that this app DOES NOT work on DSD files, at least in terms of adding cover art. Other than that…

You don't have to use any software package if you just want to add album art to an album in the downloads folder of the Core. All you need to do is move the artwork in a file called cover.jpg or folder.jpg and put it into the folder alongside the music files. I haven't tried it with DSD but I don't see why it would be any different.

DSD files work just the same. Just need the folder.jpg with the music files, as David says.

Just go to the AppStore via your mac and type "meta", choose that one.

Dear all - I made the transition a while ago from music stored on an iMac to having a UnitiServe SSD where its stored on a NAS.  Naim do things a little differently.  Albums that are ripped by Naim are stored in a 'Network Store' called 'NaimMusicStore' whereas anything you buy and download yourself is stored in a 'Network Share' called 'DownloadMusic'.  What I've found is anything ripped by the UnitiServe, the album cover art is automatically sorted by Naim pretty accurately.  Anything you download yourself frankly isn't.  The trick to sorting this is when you download an album, people like Quobuz name the cover art file (not unreasonably) as 'name of the album.jpg'.  You simply need to rename it to 'folder.jpg' and place it in the same folder as the the music files for that album.  You don't need any software for this.

I agree Qobuz is better with reworking,  but not for the reason you give, 'name of the album.jpg'  does not need renaming as the art is embedded in the metadata.   Its worth noting that some vendors also supply a .pdf art or a more extensive .pdf booklet as well as the art in .jpg.  So invariably,  no matter who's download you get,  a bit of work is needed, its a few minutes of time & to be honest I like to do it - & to get back to the thread subject -  no matter where I get the download or even with a CD rip, I alway look around for something better for the artwork cover;  I'm happy with anything over 600x600,  not much point in going over 1000x1000 with an iPad, but a lot of the stuff that comes with CD rip metadata services & some downloads can be improved.

Just saying what reliably works.  Also as the Naim uses Microsoft OS, I download WAV files rather than AIFF so I don't seem to get any metadata - just the music files and jpg album cover file and that's it.   I read somewhere years ago WAV doesn't carry metadata but not sure whether that's right or wrong tbh.

with this kind of programs like "meta" you can create albums, rename them, add some info etc. (it's not only about cover arts.).

Ever since I started streaming in 2014 with a NAS, ripping & editing metadata with a MS PC or laptop,   I have always downloaded & ripped to WAV whenever possible,  if WAV downloads are not available then get FLAC or whatever is available & use dBpoweramp to convert to WAV.  I have never had a single case of not getting metadata or had any issues with metadata & I edit & manipulate WAV without any problems whatsoever.

WAV is an original Microsoft/IBM audio file container format. The original WAV specification can embed any kind of metadata including the popular ID3 tags & XMP.   However officially WAV does not support embedding metadata & some applications may not be set up to process the extra information, and that I suspect is where your trouble lies.
