Kraftwerk 3-D The Catalogue

Posted by: Ebor on 29 June 2017

8-CD box set just arrived today so I've had a very fun evening playing them all. SQ is fabulous - whack the dB up and it feels like a live concert. Many reviews have lamented the lack of audience noise, but I'm very happy without it. Since the versions presented are, in some cases, so different from the originals, it's like I've bought modern reworkings of the original albums. Packaging and presentation is very slick too, rather like 2009's The Catalogue. Only gripe is that they've shortened most of the albums, even though some of them weren't very long in the first place. Some of the discs only play for under 25 minutes!

Has anyone plumped for the Blu-ray edition, especially in 3D? What's it like?

Hello Mark

i have the 8-CD like yourself and the Blu-Ray 3D also.  The 3D images are very good not OTT, I only have a sound bar and sub woofer which are decent quality but the sound is extremely good.

I particularly like the mix and trans europa express, mind you radioaktivitat takes some beating as well

I agree with you the versions are noticeably different, the lack of audience noise to me is one of the main selling points as I find the whooping and shouting annoying with this type of music. King Crimson did similar with their Radical Action To Unseat The Hold Of Monkey triple cd set and it sounds amazing.

That said I can't imagine a live rock/metal concert without the audience noise.

Anyway enjoy several hours of quality listening !

I have the BD box set and have pulled all the 24/48 material off it.

Superb.

Not so much concerts as a sequence of live installations. OK, maybe that's a bit pretentious. But I get it. Lack of audience noise is the quirky option, which will always be the default option for Ralf.

I don't think any of the sets offer particularly good VFM but fans will be fans, me included.

Did anyone attend any of the live shows, I was unable to go due to work commitments. I have a feeling I may regret not going and missing something special.

I saw them twice on this tour and the concerts were just outstanding. Getting excellent reviews in the press too (many 5 star). The 3D and sound were excellent and they had a superb setlist. Highlights for me were Radioactivity and the Tour De France section which was just so well done. The Robots were great too.

Ralf did well on the 3D release with me as I ended up buying the CD box, Vinyl Box (good pressings) and big Bluray Box (nice book).

Would be great to be at the Dusseldorf show tonight where they play a show for the first stage of the Tour De France (and will be playing the complete album)...
