Using more than one control point

I bought a NAC N-272 earlier this year and am considering the addition of another Naim streamer to facilitate synchronised multi-room playback. My assumption is that I would have a control point in each room for controlling the local Naim unit. I would also like control point 1 to manage Naim streamer 2 (and vice versa).

However, if I use the Naim app on my iPad to initiate the playing of some music on my 272 and then try to access the Naim app on my Android phone to alter the volume, I get the message 'Another app connected. Disconnect other client and try again .'

Is there any way to force a new instance of the app to take over control, or must I just get used to walking back to the room containing the control point I used first?

The first app needs to disconnect before the second can take control. Shutting the iPad cover will do the trick. We have a 272 and a Qb and control them with two iPads and two iPhones without problems.

Exactly as HH says. Sometimes I'm using an iPhone and want a bigger display for some reason, so just press the standby button on the phone and immediately switch to the iPad.

You need to make sure that "stay connected" is not ticked in the setup though. (It's under "other settings" for each streamer in the iOS app and presumably similar for the Android app.

N-Serve, unlike the Naim app, can be kept open on multiple devices, and I think I'm right in saying that the new streaming platform will do this on the Naim app. Not that this is much use to a 272 owner.

With Multiroom enabled, you can obviously control multiple devices either simultaneously or individually from a single device. What I'm not sure about is if two people can each control a different streamer on a different device: I assume this should be possible, presumably some of you running multiple streamers will know?

My phone has no cover, and up to now, I have mostly used my Samsung Android tablet with its cover folded so that it sits at an angle on a table. I had also been considering mounting an old or cheap tablet to the wall in each room as a dedicated controller (with no cover fitted). The closing of covers was therefore not something I had tried before.

However, a test does show that shutting the cover on my iPad or Android tablet does indeed do the trick. If it is not convenient (or possible) to disconnect the app by closing a cover, then I guess I would just have to get into the habit of exiting the app after each interaction with the Naim kit.

You don't need to exit the app, just put the device into standby. On an IOS device with no Smart Cover that means press the power/on/standby button briefly. It's trivial.

The problem with operating in this manner is that if you want the freedom to use any control point for any of your Naim streamers at any time, then none of them can be left showing what's currently playing. It would be good if this constraint could be removed, but it may be that the UPnP/DLNA spec makes this difficult.

I like having the Playing Now screen on display, so I suspect I will just have to get used to walking into another room to access the active control point.

I think you probably will have to. I rather think that most people prefer the iPad or whatever to go to sleep when they are not actually doing something so that the battery charge is preserved. But the discussion demonstrates that there is always a different way to be using something to the way that you use yourself!
