System Pics... what now ?

Posted by: rjstaines on 08 July 2017

System Pics, led ably each year by HH, is suddenly full of demands from Photobucket to upgrade to their 500 service at a cost of 400GBP per year !

Well I'm sorry you lot, but I 'ain't paying four hundred smakeroos each year just you can see my audio setup!

So I have to ask.. "Who's got the solution?"  Where do we go as a free alternative to Photobucket?

That's the wonderful world of Cloud9 for you.  Paste the pictures into the thread, instead of linking.  Simples.

As I understand it, you can't just paste the pics in because Naim not unreasonably want to keep the bandwidth costs of the forum down. I now use imgur which is a lort more pleasant than Photobucket had become.

I started with Imageshack and when it wanted me to start paying I moved to Photobucket. I'm not prepared to pay them so I'm now with imgur which still offers a free service. And, as Eoink says, imgur seems free of those awful and crude pop-ups that plagued Photobucket.

Hi, this was discussed recently, some options are suggested here, regards, Robert

I've finally worked out how to use Imgur on my iPad. For now, it's ad and stupid pop up free. How long that will last is anyone's guess.

I've used imageshack for about 10 years. A couple of years ago they told me they where going to charge me £2 per month. My first thought was "I'm not paying that". But at the end of the day I couldn't be bothered finding a free alternative. I've no complaints about their service and it actually costs less than 50p per week

I started out with Imageshack then moved to Photobucket.  So far PB are still linking my images, but I wonder for how much longer...

I usually post to Facebook with "only me" as the audience and then view image and link this.

I rent my own web space to place images and data I wish to share. It means I can monitor the usage of the images.

They will disappear within 12 months of my departure from sanity or from this world (ie I cease paying rent for the space.)

Someone suggested Flickr a while ago. This pushed me towards their web hosting. I had no problems posting here, but did experience a few problems on another forum. Think it has to do with different codes or whatever which doesn't mean much to me. Works fine now and I believe the tool for sizing images is better. Actually, I believe the quality or resolution is better as Photobucket always had problems uploading large files.

I've also migrated to Flickr, which I confess I'm struggling a bit with at the moment. I've managed to upload photos but trying to find out how to post them to another forum's a bit of a challenge!

I have been trying to download lmgur on my BlackBerry, so far unsuccessfully.

Photobucket does not work on blackberry anymore.

Any suggestions for a Blackberry user welcome?

Thanks for the tips folks.  It looks as though my Photobucket account has been nuked as well.

I'll try Imgur...

Okay, I have transferred a bunch of photos off Photobucket and on to Imgur.

Which link do I use to post an Imgur image into a Naim Forum post?  I have just tried (unsuccessfully) to post some pictures in the Best TT? thread in the Hifi forum.

All help gratefully received.  Best regards, FT

I use Imgur on an iPad, but have not tried it from a computer. Which are you doing?

Posted on: 22 July 2017 by Foot tapper

Hi HH, I am trying to do it from a mac, not an ipad.

There appear to be 4 options on Imgur:

  1. Share Link
  2. BBCode (Forums)
  3. Embed in HTML, and
  4. Markdown (Reddit)

I have been trying Share Link, so far without success.  Advice appreciated.

On the iPad it looks like this when you press the picture. I then touch 'copy link' and paste it into the box on the Form that you get when you touch the little mountain. Does that make sense?

I use a MacBook and imgur.

Click on the image you have uploaded to imgur. It expands in a bigger window and on the right  you will see a column of choices under "view and edit posts'. Select the second from the top  called 'direct link'. Copy the link and paste into the "insert/edit image" logo in the usual box on the forum.

Thanks MDS, got it.  I'll give it a try.

I finally got the PhotoBucket heave-ho & today have tried a few alternatives.  To the winner & forget the rest,  Imgur seems as good as it gets, is easy enough to learn & use.     I loaded it on my laptop Win10 & also iPad & by using same e-mail & PW its linked on both.

Mike - just followed your advise - Photobucket has been kicked

Posted on: 02 August 2017 by DrMark

Yeah I kicked PB to the curb about a week ago, and need to get imgur or one of the other proffered solutions going.

Well done HH -  Imgur seems to work.  Let's get some sock pictures going again....

Posted on: 02 August 2017 by hungryhalibut

It does work really well, and is easy peasy to use. And - for now at least - no pesky adverts. Nice socks - I'm assuming they are on a child.
