Atom/Nova update
Posted by: Gazza on 12 July 2017
Trevor, will we have another weekly update on progress in testing and launch timing of the Uniti series, shortly?

I read somewhere here a while back that they were in scope to be released a month later. I was just being flippant.
If the dealers are indeed confirming arrival of Atom units next week then I imagine it will be generally announced to customers either later today or maybe on Monday or tuesday of next week. UK dealers will always be told first so they can get their ducks in a row and also give time to receive their units. Anyway, we shall see what is announced in due course...

I can see something between the lines here Richard.
Wow! Feels like 3 months early as apposed to 9 months late
For me the Nova is just another Superuniti but its the Star I am waiting for because of its ability to Rip Cds and hopefully store them all in one component. Alas the wait I hear is even longer than the Nova, I hope its worth the wait. The power out put on the Star is 70 watts, would it be sufficient to drive ATC SCM 19 and 40 comfortably? I suppose at this stage no one can say for sure.
I heard it drive Focal Sopra No1 and PMC 25.26 and it gave a good account of itself, a NAP 250 would of course be even better, but much more money with a preamp as well to buy.
So they are on the way. Fair play Trevor for the update and sentiment.

Well kind of - other than, so I was told by Naim, the architecture has been purposely redesigned from the ground up with the new models - where as the SuperUniti (as well as other Naim products) have tended to use a more modular bolt-together type approach which apparently might not have always delivered the best synergies possible. I am expecting quite a boost to streaming performance. The (prototype) Nova I heard last December replayed music impressively well.

Well I heard the Nova drive a pair of relatively challenging Sopra No1 speakers in a fairly large room - the Nova sounded totally in control to me with bass, rhythms, vocals and dynamics.. I would be very surprised if the Nova doesn't take full control of 19s with ease. The new ATCs are not too hard to drive at all for infinite baffle designs - but obviously not yet able to confirm
I would be interested in the view of others, but I felt the new Uniti lack a little of the so called Naim "house" sound, still with great PRAT, but a cleaner sound. Don,t get me wrong, they sounded great.
Glad to hear the nova is shipping. Everyone at Naim must be mightily relieved
Normal service resumed.

The Atom is shipping sjb, Nova will hopefully follow soon. But pedantry aside, yep, I'm delighted both for Naim and the customers who've been waiting for preorders and auditions.
Alhtoumgh my Atom/Nova Demo in 2 weeks will presumably need another postponement.)
I now have my Nova demo scheduled for 3rd week in August, will probably demo PMC, kudos, and Russell k 120/150.
cant compare the classic ranges with the new uniti/muso line new direct for naim for new buyers it looks very good, .if think the large screen will be a hit and plug and play 10/10

Gazza - please report back and expand on your your experience when you get to hear the Nova, especially when partnered with the Kudos and Russell K speakers.
Of course, I have a 19 ft square room, so they will need to be able to fill that volume of space, so will be the larger speakers, I will keep you posted.
19ft sq = 5.77m sq
That will result in a big room resonance peak at 34Hz.
If you use larger speakers with better bass extension (i.e. bass extension any where near 34Hz) the bass response at 34Hz will be greatly exaggerated and could well result in the 'one note bass' effect.
With the Atom shipping and the Nova in testing ready for “imminent release”, I’m still unsure of the timescale for the Star (hopefully late August/ early September) ???
Good to see that the Atom has now appeared on the Uniti Support page of the Naim website, alongside the Core

Isn't a room 19ft by 19ft actually 33.6 square metres? Does this make a difference?

19ft x 19ft = 5.79m x 5.79m = 33.5m2
As the room is square, the standing waves in the room - transverse and longitudinal - will both have the same wavelength that being twice the distance between the walls.
λ = 11.6m ≅ 34Hz in air at STP.
That gives a very strong resonance at 34Hz.
I was at a local dealership yesterday picking up my Core and he was clearly over the moon that his Uniti stocks would be arriving next week. A large hole in his revenue stream for that past few month for sure.
Thankfully my dealer is only suggesting narrowing down the speaker list for a home demo, later, but points duly noted. Thanks a Huge.
