New Uniti Core

Posted by: No quarter on 12 July 2017

i got word from my dealer that my Core has arrived,I will be picking it up today, and hopefully playing music from it shortly after.I have not bought I hard drive yet,so my plan is to plug a 64 Gig thumb drive into the front, connect the SPDIF out to my N272,turn on the app,and begin set up.I have read over the tutorial at the top of this forum, and it seems pretty straightforward for what I want to do initially.Does anyone have any advice for me,as to what watch out for, what not to do etc.?I will start looking for hard drives this weekend, but I am hoping to at least have it playing something later today.I have no NAS,so this is replacing all my music that currently sits on a western digital hard drive, plugged into my laptop.I have been using J-river to stream from the laptop.Eventually I will rip all my cd's,and want to transfer the music from the 2 TB hard drive to the Core. Thanks for any advice in advance.

David,I just stuck a thumb drive into the front of the Core, and it appears to be scanning it now, because if I click on albums every few minutes, the total number is increasing. The thing is,i   did nothing else,as far as defining it as a share goes...it is just loading them into "albums" on it's own.It seems to be playing one of those new albums fine, but there were a couple of brief pauses, then it continued playing.Maybe this is because it is still loading all the data.

When I go into settings>manage music>configure music shares>share scanning>It says "no drives found"

So to me,this does not seem to do what you say it should, actually this has never found drives since day one for me.The important thing is though, the music is there, and I can play it I guess.

I have only used a 64 gigabyte thumb drive for this "test",the last thing I want to do is overload it again.I will let it finish scanning, and see what happens from there.

Maybe the front USB is already a share. There are still some bugs in the Core's firmware and finding drives reliably definitely strikes me as one of them, and I have an ongoing issue myself in that regard, although it doesn't bother me, but anyway your's is obviously scanning your USB, so you will be fine.

The problem you had before was "importing" files into your internal hard drive until it was full. They won't have been corrupted because it copies them in one at a time. But from what Manu said later, they have seen it all go wrong before when the drive is full. That's why I suggested you delete ten albums, to clear some space. But perhaps that wasn't enough. In the event you fixed it by deleting the imports with your PC, which is exactly the right thing to have done.

But you don't need to import the music because one of the great things about the Core is that you can store the music pretty well anywhere it can see and it embraces it so you can select it via the Naim app just as if it were stored internally.
