Help! I can't access my nas all of a sudden...?

Posted by: Moobs79 on 13 July 2017

Hi all,

I'm going a little mad trying to fix this but im just going round in circles so I thought I'd put it to the experts!!!

I've got a Unitiqute which I've been happily using for that last 3 years with all my music on my WD My Book Live but all of a sudden I've stopped getting an option to access the drive. All I get now is an option for the MyBookLive Twonky server which when I click on says 'no results'.

I've tried restarting the qute, drive and the router with no luck. I've tried turning the twonky server off and nothing.

It feels like it's something bloody obvious but I just can't work it out.

Can anyone help? I miss my music!!!

Thanks, Christian.

Have you checked the SMART status of the drives, if its two or more drives is the raid in a diminished state?

Are you able to log into the NAS on a computer and view the files?

Cheers for replying

Hi Garyi I'm a bit of a novice on the nas but it's a single drive I believe. I'm not sure what the SMART status is?

Hi Chrissu yes I can access the files on my laptop as normal and play them to my qute from the laptop too.

We did have a couple of power cuts all in one go about the time it all stopped working but I don't see how that can have done anything?

So at least you know the files are still there! I'm not familiar with Twonky, but it should, like any server, have the option to rescan the drive.

An alternative would be to instal a different server and see if you get on any better with that. I mention this because Twonky does not seem to have a great reputation with Naim users, so if your NAS is able to run something like Minimserver or Asset, that could be worth a try.

As the OP mentioned a power outage, I suspect the network equipment may have become corrupted.

[@mention:15927322089601079]: I recommend you power down all network components (NAS, switch, modem, etc). Wait 5-10 minutes and gradually re-start them in this order (waiting for each unit to come on-line): modem, switch, NAS, streamer.

The above should re-fresh the IP assignment, clear the cashes, etc.

I had a similar problem with my SBT/NAS.

I switched the nas off in the hot weather quite a few times. On two occassions the router assigned the NAS a different IP address. Therefore the SBT could't find the NAS.

Switching the NAS off and on fixed the problem.

Can you get to the music from the front panel on the UQ?

If so clear the UPnP cache in the App.

If still no luck get Twonky to rescan your music collection

And now you know why so many people call it Wonky Twonky!

Using you web browser open the MBL's webpage (type its network address into your web browser) then open Settings > media and check that Twonky service is enabled (tick box) then click on the "∨" next to "Twonky service" and check that your UQ's IP address/MAC address isn't being blocked. If it is simply untick the box next to it.

Hi all

Thanks for all your help!

I've tried shutting everything down and bringing the router, nas and qute back on in order with no luck. I've checked twonky is on and that the IP address is not blocked as well and everything is as it should be and I've cleared the cache but no joy.

Back when it was all working I had the option of clicking on twonky server (which is now my only option) or mybooklive (which is what I always went in to) but now cannot see it. I'm not sure how to install a new server on the hard drive or if that would fix it?

Sorry to ask so many questions but I'm a bit out of my depth now..!

Might be worth checking the settings on the Twonky webpage for your MBL hardrive. You can find this by typing in your MBL's ip address followed by :9000 e.g. 192.168.1.xxx:9000.

This will open the Twonky Media Server's configuration page where you will be able to set up which folders are being shared e.g. Public folder and the type of media to be shared i.e. "All content types" "Music only" etc. There is also an Advanced Setup section where you can check that your UQ's I.P.address is listed as enabled and a network section where you can try restarting the server to see if that helps.

The config page also has a media browser link where you can check the music media by the browse category e.g. album, artist etc. and actually play the files.

I understand that a few years ago WD released their own media server to replace the "free" version of Twonky preloaded in MBL harddrives so it might be worthwhile checking WD's website and or forum site for further info on this. Otherwise, I don't think that you can easily install a third party media server on the MBL.

If all else fails, as a temporary measure you can map your MBL's public/music folder as a network drive on your computer/laptop and install minimserver on your computer and use that to serve the files from the MBL.
