Armageddon Questions

Posted by: Morgs on 14 July 2017

I have had a Naim Armageddon driving my LP12 for a number of years and love it. i recently moved to the states and before getting it out of the box and connecting it to the power supply I took the LP12 and Armageddon to a local specialist to get it serviced. A new motor was installed together with new bearings but the engineer discovered that he could not get the LP12 to run at the right speed. It is running too fast. A little research identified the need to match the motor to the local power supply - 50Hz in the UK - 60Hz in the US.

I have a couple of options, I can try to source a 60Hz motor to match the power supply or I can try to sell the Armageddon back in the UK and buy a US Spec Lingo.

Question. Any thoughts on the performance of the Armageddon vs the latest Lingo?

Thanks

Phil

Phil

It could be as simple as sourcing the correct size pulley wheel for 60hz.

Motors with the 60Hz pulley are available from Linn.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have ordered a 60Hz motor and, fingers crossed, hoping the Armageddon is still producing a stable supply of juice.

Maybe it is ready for a recap?   Has anybody tried an Armageddon DR?

Armageddon does not contain any caps so never needs a recap. No such thing as a DR armageddon.

As to the question of lingo vs armageddon, armageddon every time, it is meaty bouncy and full of prat where lingo is lean thin and a bit like digital.
