Snaxo 2-4

Posted by: Ebeneezer01 on 15 July 2017

Hi, I'm in the market for Snaxo 2-4, use  an Ixo presently. However the Snaxo I'm interested in  has been "upgraded"to a 242. Is this considered a worthwhile upgrade? Considering it's considerably more than I wish to pay, would it be worth holding back on my NAC 72 service and recapp to get my extra funds to purchase it?

I don't think the 2-4 can be upgraded to 242. What is more likely is that the wiring has been modified so that the two amps supply bass or treble, rather than bass and treble for either left or right, which is how they were wired originally. I wouldn't pay more than the price of a standard 2-4.

HH is right here - AFAIK a SNAXO 2-4 cannot be fully upgraded to a 242 - that requires a completely new board for one thing.  As HH says, more likely just rewired at the DINs to enable horizontal operation with mixed amps.  Get the history and the details of any service work before committing, however, a genuine SNAXO 242 would be a better bet.

As to HH's reply, I tend to agree, it's only two 200s,250s, or two 500s, which would only improve the SQ of your Speakers by taking the crossover out of the equation.

Wonky doesn't tend to enter the equation, on an 242, as an 362, where one can experiment with the best amp on the high end, as opposed to the middle, or low end.

Archived threads, reveals that the new Snaxo technologies, have eliminated the best amp on the High end theory.

And one (could) go Wonky > Dibbles/ Briks

200 ~ Tweeter

300 ~ Midrange

500 ~ Woofer

However, the Forum individuals for the most part, desired the 300 on the Midrange with the 500s on the high, and low end!

Mr Richard Dane's reply factors in the above, also one must consider the age of the unit.

Regardless of the your choice, servicing would be worth considering!

Furthermore, I've heard that the power supply can make a major difference.

The Hi Cap, does not offer the benefits of the Burndy.

Option 1:

Recapped Snaxo 2-4, two identical Amps

Cost efficient.

Option 2:

Recapped Snaxo 242, or Spanking New!

Experimental options, and resale value!

JMHO!

Allante93!

PS.

SuperCap

Burndy

Snaxo 242 ~ Msrp ~ $1,400 GBP

And Any Naim Amps, your heart desire!

After all, this is your Hobby!

And call it a Day!
