TIDAL directly streaming

Posted by: Dmitriy on 16 July 2017

Hello,

can i stream directly from TIDAL IOS app or PC version to UQ2 ? i found that can stream only through naim app, but native tidal has better usability. Don't understand why Tidal doesn't have this option when Spotify does ?

Thanks !

You could use bluetooth with the risc of stability issues and of course lose sound quality at the same time.

I am not particular impressed by the tidal app, I see few things I cannot do as well from the  Naim app, but I am not into playblist management, and this could explain my view on this one.

Dmitriy, the differences are because Spotify (Connect) uses a proprietary streaming technique which Naim have inbuilt into their streamers. This converts the streamer to a media endpoint like AirPlay where the media is 'pushed' to the endpoint. Tidal, is a lot simpler and uses more standard protocols and there is no need to register end points, the app simply controls the streamer and the streamer initiates the session to receive the Tidal media stream. In this case the APIs for controlling Tidal are built into the Tidal app or the Naim  app as appropriate, where as with Spotify it's all handled by the Spotify app.

i'm talking about "cast to" list. There is no naim products in it ! In terms of battle for sound quality with 1000$ interconnect cables and 2000$ stands i don't understand why they use Bluetooth at all in hi-end products like Nac 272 or same.

thanks for answer ! i understand that  problem is in TIDAL side, not NAIM.  It's a pity (

You are a well of science and knowledge Simon. Thanks. Is there any chance that you would consider helping Salisbury to design a sound and sustainable application for Qobuz? We could even think of raising funds on this forum to support part of such development. :]

I stream from the Tidal IOS or Android App to my Unitiqute2 via a Googlecast device....works a treat.  If you haven't got one you could always buy  a Chromecast Audio.   I don't use the Unitiqute2 built in Tidal app because it has a habit of stopping every 20 minutes!
