cdx2 not more produced

Posted by: French Rooster on 16 July 2017

i read on a discussion that a naim dealer said" the cdx2 is no longer produced ". If it is true, it is sad, the cdx2/xps2 is perhaps the most enjoyable cd player which exists, with a prat and urgency to be damned for, and with a very competitive price. I sold mine 1 year ago, but regret a bit.   True or fake?

And as to being crucified because I rebelled against the established order. ... hmm. Damn I am not Sparticus! I am the flat footed, flat Earth worshipping Centurion.  Happy to declare my loyalty to Salisbury and crucify those that will not bow! Talk about conflicted

If the earth was flat, cats would have knocked everything off by now.

to have nds/555dr....globally i prefer the nds. But the cdx2 / xps2 had something special, a personality of its own.  But i prefer, for convenience...to have only one digital source.

Hope it gets better, before it gets the to point of any of your posts not being understood !

Keler Pierre, running a non-naim preamp into a naim power amp, isn't going to get the best results, as you have in an well meaning, but uninformed way, bypassed the core earthing principles of Naim amplifiers. The Naim preamp and poweramp are really best when paired together, that is how these were designed in Salisbury. currently you are using a valve preamp into a NAP 300...

A chat with a knowledgeable dealer should be a good use of your time.

it is not the topic...i had before nac 252/ supercap with nap 250. The ear 912 with superb phono inside replaced it and i found it better: same dynamic but more fluency, more open sound and more true tone colors.  In general it is not recommended, but here the match is in heaven. Chord made me special cables to connect to my nap 300dr.

you like to give lessons to people....i tried this combination first at a Paris well known audio dealer ( naim/ ear yoshino / ps audio/ audio note/fostex...).  this combo works perfectly.

Some use also aesthetics preamp with naim amps... in general it is better to have tube amp with naim preamp....but there are exceptions.  I have this combo since 2 years. The phono all tube inside is also perfectly quite, as the preamp itself.  I have tried also one day conrad johnson phono with naim 282, few years ago: here it didn't work, too much hum...

It is very reasonable to think that Naim was moving away from CD players.  The CDX2 in the US is over $7,000 Usd.  Probably not selling many of those these days.

Kind of like years ago when almost everyone  moved away from Vinyl.

if this information is true, naim dealers will give good prices on cdx2 in the next weeks or months... I could have lived happy with cdx2/xps2....not to say i regret my nds.

Still not an Bad investment on SQ return!

Less than 2K, and she Sings Beautiful!

very good investment. I have heard a lot of cd players, even more than 20k machines, but the cdx2/xps2 was my favorite !

Hi Allante 93

Your posts make sense to me too. Your friendly observations and inoffensive banter help make this forum a more ‘rounded’ place (says one who does more lurking than posting).

In any case, to use one of your comparisons, most of the wider population would perhaps not be able to make much sense of what any of us post on Hi-Fi corner (Hah!).

So, just keep posting mate.

Cheers.

Exactly my intention when I sold my CDX2. But after one year I bought it once again (pre loved) what perhaps tells something about its specialty. Now I am happy to hear it perhaps once a month..

i could have done like you, but finally made other choices....perhaps one day i will buy it again, or a cd555 with good price....

Not surprising. I thought that the day would come soon when NAIM would get out of the CD player business. It's like making VCR's, no one wants them. You get equivilant better sound ripping a CD to a Uniti Core and going straight to to a NDS DAC input/NDAC or top flight digital solution if you find CD's you still want. I can't imagine too many people who have not already invested that money in a top flight CDP are ordering them.

Just a question : why not the EAR power amp then?

it's just my opinion, whenever I have tried to remove my 282, (either with Chord Dave driving Nap 250 direct - or with Linn Klimax preamp), it just didn't sound as good as with 282. The Linn preamp made the system sound like Linn, not my cup of tea. I think the cables that Naim supply are also matched to the amps, changing the cables - well you get a sound, but not the one that was intended by Naim Salisbury. That's my finding anyway.

I think these things are synergy, certainly our esteemed moderator has always advised that the Naim preamp and power amp are really one and should be used together.

It's your ears and money, but just curious if you tried EAR power amp.

there are many new CD players around as well, Bryston and Hegel launched new players.... and many japanese / european brands are still on business

can we say maybe cd2x become way too expensive for what it is compare to the new generation of mid priced players?

we as a Naim crowd have a special relationship with cd2x but for a new cd buyer without a brand loyalty cd2x is a less likely choice.... although i can think to change my 9 year old one with a brand new one with optical out

With Hugo 2 now released...... I would rather buy that than any CD player for the money

I'm not saying this has anything to do with CDX2, but I need to get the very best kit for my limited money

does hugo2 play CDs?

Posted on: 18 July 2017 by analogmusic

I stream Tidal from my IPhone/Ipad into apple TV optical output into Chord Mojo and Chord Dave.

Don't need a CD player anymore

Tidal in 272, NDX or NDS works fine for me too.

I've just had an email from Naim stating that the CDX2 is still current. It's sometimes best to go to the horse's mouth, rather than its arse.

Posted on: 18 July 2017 by joerand

Closure to this topic hopefully, but time will tell.

What "current" means is subject to debate .

Posted on: 18 July 2017 by Drewy

You'd think someone from Naim would have been on here pretty quick to put to bed any rumours that one of their products are no longer available. They could have lost a few sales and this forum is here to generate sales.

Good news anyway.

I think "current" just means that they will build one on an order from a dealer.
