FlatCap2 + Stageline N connection

Posted by: calyanak on 24 July 2017

Hi,

for connection flatcap2 and stageline N whizh should ı use powerout A or powerout B?  And any different idea for connection supernait--hicapDR--Stageline N--Flatcap2??

thanks

You'd think so Chris. But then the connector labelling would be wrong on Mr Bungles Stageline and it worked when using the 5 pin output straight to the SN AUX2

We'll file this in the 'works but not as it should do' draw.

James, Maybe the two DIN model only works the Nitrous way.

Much as I would like to have a new wiring arrangement in my naim (sorry couldn't resist that) my two 'later stagelines' both work in either the recommended/ original arrangement and the 'nitrous' arrangement. I just prefer the sound if it is direct from the Stageline. Plus, and here is where it gets interesting. In my system the sound gains another minor improvement when the tt earth lead goes to the nait XS. which is Flatcap XS powered.

clearly there is a fault with something in Mr. bungle's system, and it appears to be not passing the signal along one of the snaics or in the Flatcap outputs.

I take your point Christopher, I think initially I was just pleased to hear something at last!?

Perhaps I ought to get the Stageline checked out??

Calyanak and Mr Bungle, Soundwise, what do you make of the FC on the Stageline when compared with powered directly from the SN's Aux2?

Hi everyone,

in my system, when setup stageline N + SN Aux2 the sound was feels like  in a concert hall...

When ı change setup ;

Stageline N + FlatCap2 (5-5) PowerOutA

FlatCap2+ SN Av (4-5) SignalA

The sound feels like ancient amphitheatres  (Epidauros Aspendos, Ephesus ) The sound was very clear and more freely circulating in the my room. It's the feeling of what my hearing is....

I did not have the time to change settings to g...(becouse of fixing )

StageLine N + FlatCap2 (5-5)

Stageline N + SN (4-5)

for testing...

thanks ....

Well after a few days of back and forth emailing the support team at Naim (thanks Steven ) this alternate configuration suggested a short while ago appears to work pretty well.

Wether this suggests an issue with the Signal A Out on the Flatcap...who knows, perhaps I ought to get it checked out again at some point.

So how come it didn't work when Richard suggested you try this config way back and you posted -

Yes Richard the same issue is present using Power B/Signal B as well. Both the light indicators on the Flatcap and the Stageline light up so power is getting the to Stageline but no sound.

Could it be the SNAIC?

James, my fault I think because I typed signal out "B" when in fact I should have said "D".  I knew which socket but got the lettering wrong.

Thanks Richard - Ah yes - i see it now with the labelling on Power B and Socket D

It doe sound like there is an issue with the A side of the FC. Worth getting the dealer to check that 24v is appearing on both power rail pins of Socket A. To check signal integrity make sure there is continuity between Socket A CH1 pin and Socket B,C CH1 pins and also Socket A CH2 pin and Socket B,C CH2 pins.

I'm out

Not me, I'd still like to hear how it sounds compared with Aux2....
