Naim hicap dr
Posted by: Johnny5 on 30 July 2017
Any body use the new hicap dr with the supernait just looking for some feedback as I might go for one.
I've heard the SN1 with the HCdr many many times and it sounded superb, some would say less so with the SN2 from what has been reported on the forum but it's all a matter of opinions ....
Yes I do have the supernait 2 cdx2 but have not got to demo the Hicap

If you do a forum search you will find it seems the HCdr on SN2 is less of an impact, but I've not heard that combination myself.
Unfortunately it is something that you really need to hear for yourself before you commit...
I have the SN2, and I wouldn't be without the HiCap DR, it brings a great amp to another level.
There are many owners of SN2 integrated amps on this forum, aside from maybe one or two individuals here, most will tell you it is definitely a worthwhile addition.
I have an SN2, liked it very much anyway but with the Hicap Dr connected, in my view, it is a far better amp. Good enough that I've never felt the need to upgrade
As stated - the forum is full of contrasting opinions on this subject (which has been discussed at least half a gazzilion times).
For me HiCap DR is an indispensible component of my SN2. I like it so much, that I recently added NAP 250 DR to the combo

I liked it so much, that I recently added a NAC 282 to it! LOL...

LOL indeed. "I liked it so much I decided to upgrade my system". The quintessential Naim way .
Johnny5,
I'm one of the "maybe one or two individuals here" (there are actually more) that found too much hi-fi factor from adding a HCDR to my SN2. Things got too hot and intense in the long-term which lead to listening fatigue for me. I preferred the musicality and more relaxed presentation of the bare SN2 in my room, for my ears. Many will say the HCDR is a no brainer addition to the SN2, but there are also cases where it doesn't work. Also be advised that you'll require a SNAIC4 in addition to the SNAIC5 supplied with the HCDR to make the connection to the SN2. Best wishes with your choice, the HCDR may work well for you and you'll never know unless you try.
[@mention:70272142510049250] - To minimize the cost & risk, you might consider buying a pre-loved HiCap. Should you not like it, I feel sure you could then sell it for roughly what you paid.
