BBC radio rights restricted

Posted by: kittybag on 04 August 2017

I occasionally have  a problem when listening to BBC radio on my Muso where the broadcast is suddenly interrupted and I get  a repeated message that rights restrictions mean it can not be relayed. I understand this can be the case when listening from outside the UK but I am in the UK and also, it happens mid-programme (at about 8.45 in the Today programmme on radio 4 this morning for example). Any ideas on why this happens and is there a way to stop it?

No idea why, but it sounds to me like a problem that Naim should be aware of. If I were you I'd let Naim support know, it may be an issue that they can take up with vTuner. Maybe your network settings or ISP are confusing them re. your location?

Could it be something to do with the way you're connected to the Internet? Perhaps a delay caused by using Satellite internet for example? Or an obscure provider who uses a VPN or something?

Thanks. My ISP is Virgin so not that obscure and its through cable so shouldn't involve any routing overseas but if it's not something other people are reporting then that does suggest an issue with my connection in some form. I'll contact Virgin support and see what they say - that's assuming I get a response at all.

I'd have thought Virgin would be steady enough but maybe there is a weird routing they use!

Perhaps it goes via Richard Branson's offshore tax haven!

We use Virgin internet and have no problems with BBC radio whatsoever. We only use the Uselesshub as a modem, whether that makes a difference, though there is no reason it should.

????

Nothing to do with routing - possibly a case of specific IP address subnets that are being used by your ISP for your specific access are not registered or assigned for UK use.

I am outside the UK.

Pressing Ok/List on my Naim Uniti remote (while listening to a BBC station - e.g. Radio 3) brings up the usual list of programmes.

However, for the *vast majority* of these, I get "No shows available".

Has this anything to do with the BBC's new policy of having to register and login to listen again to most material?

I have registered with the BBC and, for example, for "The Essay" on BBC Radio 3, I can listen to the episodes no problem via my iPhone, after logging in.

With my Uniti, I get "No shows available".

Is this the way of things now, or is there a workaround? I would much rather listen via my hifi system.

Thanks.
