Posted by: Matthew Johns on 05 August 2017

hi all,

she who must be obeyed is due to have vinyl tile flooring fitted in my stereo room and I now need to get some floor protectors for my kudos speaker spikes

any recommendations for the floor protectors or something like the isoacoustic Gaia III

thanks

Alternatively, spikes would key in nicely to the vinyl, and provide little indentations to ensure precise re-placement should the speakers then ever need moving...

Euro cents seem to work quite well, they are a bit thin so a 5 cent coin may be better for those with deeper pockets

I use Naim Chips, but while I was waiting for them, four pound coins did the job fine. Now that I know a cent will do the job, I'm feeling I may have been a little extravagant.

Naim Chips are quite a bit larger than either euro cents, five-cents or one pound coins, hence will reduce the pressure and will leave less of an impression in the vinyl. Ridiculously expensive though for what they are.

There are plenty of other Chip type floor protectors, some very cheap, which I'm sure would do the job fine. I was trawling the net for just that when I happened to see someone selling 8 Naim Chips for £9.95 including postage - just recognised them from the photos and grabbed them!

Check out Solid Spike www.  They have a selection of spike protectors in different materials, styles & sizes.  Plus a load of other products to make you salivate & lighten your wallet

Lucky you! I bought 18 of them many years ago when they were ~£16 each! I dread to think what price they are now, assuming they'd have been subject to Naimflation.

Finite Elemente Ceraball universal. Simple and relatively cheap. SHMBO won't even notice.

Matthew, I'm fairly sure they have been asked about recently as feet for a pair of Ovators. Might be worth doing a search.

We gave up spikes in favor of Giant Fat Gliders from Herbie's Audio Lab.  60mm x 16mm.    $23 apiece.

They sound a lot better than spikes in our room and are more stable, too.

Chips under the Focals and Linn Skeets under the racks.

Atacama do spike shoes at a very reasonable price if that's what you're after.

Thanks all lots to go after there at range of prices, I know the supplied kudos spikes are track audio and seen that they also do isolation feet with floor protectors, not cheap anyone tried these track audio isolation feet???

Thanks for suggestions so far am still learning who knew our world of audiophile would have such choice for speaker spikes and shoes :0

Granite worktop protectors from a national super market chain, some people like them and their inexpensive. I used to use various spike protectors under my Allaes to stop spike sinking in to wooden floor. Never really liked the sound with any of them.
