Rega Planar 6

Posted by: Smithfire on 13 August 2017

Right, took me till 2 in the morning to sort out the set up (long story of woe) but the new P6 is all set up.

I chose to have an Exact instead of the Ania fitted because of the limitations of of my Nait 3, and because it was cheaper.

First playing sounded pretty darn good, but I guess the real test will be in a couple of weeks when its all bedded down nicely. 45 came out over 33 as I usually find but its all sounding very promising at this early stage.

Nice deck Clive I had a red RP6 with exact, takes a little while to bed in but from the start it will sound great.

NAIT3 and RP3 was a classic combo no doubt you have taken things up quite a notch with the RP6.

Are you using Naim MM boards in Nait 3

Also placement of the RP6 is best on their £100 wall shelf

Thanks HiFiman

Yeah bought the MM boards for the Nait. How long do you think it will take to fully bed in?

May pick your brain on this combo!

Excellent, Naim MM boards are spot on, when I had a Nait3 I used an old Planner 25 with the internal Mm cards, should have stopped there

Probably 10 to 20 hours on the exact when things start to click into place, enjoy!

Thanks for the advice HiFiMan.

I had a planar 3 20 odd years ago with a 62/hicap/135s set up and it sounded better than the LP12 that it was replaced with!

Have the original RP6 with Exact...took a good 40-50 hours to break-in

Thanks Micheal. Do you think it was the cart that was breaking in?

Yes. It was a demo unit with new cart. Not sure what the break-in is on the turntables.

Turntable break-in. Now that's one I hadn't considered, but I suppose the mechanical parts could take some time to seat. I wouldn't doubt there is a burn-in time for the arm cables though I never really noticed it when I had my RP6 rewired to Cardas cables.

just leave the turntable with 180 gr record on it , running for 24 hours , that's all that is needed enjoy

Or just listen to the break-in and alleviate 24-hours of unnecessary wear.

Interesting idea.
