Amazon Echo dot 1 Naim Mu-So nil

Posted by: Red Rooster on 15 August 2017

Hi all,

Mu-So buffering problems with BBC Radio solved. Bought an Amazon Echo dot. Set up in minutes, plugged it in to the line input of the Mu-So and now  play BBC Radio through Mu-So. Voice control for any Radio station you can say. Echo dot is sat right next to the Mu-So, Wi-Fi connected (even works into the Mu-So's Bluetooth!!!)

Not missed a beat in 8 hours now. News,Traffic, weather information as well  etc etc. Mucho kudos with other half too.

Ok so radio is via Tunein and probably not the HD stream, but I really don't care.

Voice control is so kool. Tried Radio Paradise, Jazz FM, Classic FM, Planet Rock, BBC Radio Derby . All instant and controlled by the lovely Alexa.

Best £50 I've ever spent. Deep joy.

Kind Regards

RR

NB still will use the Mu-So for Tidal and streaming from my NAS, which it does fine wirelessly already.

So really Muso 2: Echo 1!

(OK, that's discounting a + on sound quality for the Muso & a + on price for the Echo!)

Did you have issues with the non-HD BBC streams on your Mu-so?

Hi RR

This is almost the exact opposite of my experience.  BBC Radio is rock solid through my 272 (wired, but still fine if I disconnect and switch to wireless).  However, my recently purchased Echo rarely seems able to play Radio 4 via TuneIn without intermittent dropouts of a second or two every couple of minutes.  Judging by discussion on various forums, I am not alone in this.  I don't think it's my wifi as I can play Radio 4 via the RadioPlayer skill (now my default) and through my phone's wifi via Bluetooth, both without any interruption.

On a related note, I have an android TV box in which it has the "tunein" app for local radio stations. The sound output (TV box -> TV -> TV digital out -> NDX) sounds way way better than iradio!

I asked Naim whether they are considering modern home automation integration for some of their products like the new Unitis and I was met with a wry smile, polite laughter and a clear 'no, not currently'

I don't have the Echo / Echo Dot directly connected to anything other than WiFi as they get used as "timers" and verbal light switches ...
