Hugo 2 with Naim power amp

Posted by: Zachris on 15 August 2017

Has someone already tested Chord Hugo 2 with Naim power amp, say NAP250DR?

Hugo 1 ( I have Hugo 1+SN2) was widely appreciated as a dac/preamp with Naim gear. However, I have used it only as dac. Reason is that me and my family like more the volume control and remote control of SN2.

Since Hugo 2 now has remote control, it's maybe time to evaluate this again.

Any experiences?

If answers aren't forthcoming, couldn't you test it yourself, using the Hugo into the power amp section of the SN2?

One would think it'd give you a fairly good idea of what to expect, and I for one would be curious to hear how you got on.

use a good quality cable when running direct into a Naim amp, preferably one made by Naim or Chord Cables.

There isn't much point otherwise, much of the Naim sound comes from the cables they make themselves (yes including Superlumina)

I have been using the Chord Hugo TT into a NAP 250DR via a flashback cable, and to my ears produces a very satisfying sound.

Have you tried the Hugo 2 on the SN2?  How does it compare to Hugo 1?

We once tested chord Dave (dac + pre) 250.2DR.  This to compare with Dave (dac only) +282+ 250DR.  Chord dac as pre is good, but you lose alot, if not all, naim sound and involvment.

I haven't tried Hugo 2 yet. That's a thing I definitely should do. Hugo 2 owners have said it's more detailed and smoother than Hugo 1.
