Again app problems.

Again app problems.

Again no rooms found on iPad 3 on iPad 2 and on iPhone 6. Checked everything router and airport express pinged everything and everything is online but no rooms found.

This is going on for months now. I am disappointed in Naim not to be able to solve this problem. I contacted Naim and told them what I think is wrong but no answer back, importer phoned me but also no message back. Service for a premium product is not premium. You can see that the app comes up with the popup for new Naim products and under the pop up I can see my uniti but cannot reach it.

You can say what you want about customer loyalty but I am really serious thinking about leaving Naim for other brands after 22 years of being a loyal customer.

Two things to try. Kill the app by swiping it off the screen and restarting it. If that doesn't work, turn off the streamer and turn it on again. This has always worked for me on the rare occasions connectivity is lost.

If that fails, turn off the streamer, any switch, and your router. Then turn them on again, router, then switch then streamer, leaving a few minutes between each for the network to sort itself out.

I get this problem when I have been using my iPhone or iPad for something that is memory hungry (eg graphics or video). If you double click the home button, swipe the Naim app upwards to force close it, tap the home button again to get back to the home screen, then select the Naim app again, I think you will find that it finds all the rooms immediately.

I hope this helps.

I've found my app gets progressively more finding rooms problems over time & I've become more convinced its maybe something to do with the iOS RAM getting clogged with junk;  HH's & David's tips about up-swiping the Naim app does work,  I would add to up-swipe everything right down to the home screen (empty),  we are all guilty of not doing this type of house keeping.     I also found a forced restart (hold down the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button until the Apple logo appears) this (I'm told) clears RAM.  I now always do that when I install (re-install) the app, this gives a completely clean install & will not carry junk/links over from the previous install (well thats my theory anyhow)

Having what seems to be a similar problem, see my recent thread Naim app losing connection to ND5

For me a very easy way to re-establish the connection from app to ND5 is to press Pause/Play on the remote twice. Has been working immediately and 100% so far. Only problem is that I need to go to the living room and pick up the remote to do this, that's pretty inconvenient when sitting in the garden listening to music, especially when it happens several times within an hour.

Interesting to me that it also happens with Airport Express, which I was advised to install to cure the problem - not promising at all...

Pressing pause/play on the remote is more tricky and inconvenient when you have five streamers and also doesn't work for the Uniticore as it doesn't have a remote!

I almost never had the rooms not found issue until the first beta of 5.7 so I'm sure this is a problem with the app.

Also if I don't use the idevice for anything too demanding, the Naim app keeps working properly (all day yesterday for example).

It helps for me & that's all I know,   maybe their's a clue in that.

I used an IPad 2 until recently, after IOS 8 it was struggling with memory handling, multiple Safari tabs would cause page reloads, Photobox website was a nightmare with the intrusive ads, and it was necessary to kill apps regularly or everything stuttered.

On this newer model most things work well, but I do find that an occasional Naim app problem is cleared by killing all the running apps.

the app has had to many probs for too many people. my gran you to say rub it out start again

The app is very buggy, iOS 11 is launching in three weeks I'm hoping that will not make things worse. I'm assuming Naim Dev's and 3rd party software partners are testing it with iOS 11, PB6 and iOS 11,  PB7 Dev?

  • States 'not playing' when it is playing in the bottom volume bar
  • Intermittent album art display despite consistent directory and art process and file type
  • Pressing the server icon occasionally bounces to bluetooth
  • Often displays 'cannot find room'
  • Albums can bring back the incorrect meta tag data
  • Pressing the book icon does not alway bring back the album artwork and intermittently shuts down the app
  • App stops the steam and shuts down
  • iRadio channels stop and hang the app
  • Theres a few more around set up too.

Naim/Phil - is it possible to create a single thread for people to report app issues, first post you guys list common issues and fixes.

The a standard issue format to aid you, such as o/s  and app versions, description of issue, etc..

Otherwise we will sorry we have multile threads on the same topic, be nice to work together and fix what we can.

I'm starting to think I'm lucky ... as I rarely have any problems now - certainly non (or almost non - the "book" icon often doesn't return the correct album) of those you list above.  I did have a problem previously with a Belkin switch where when not being used the NAC-N 272 would "drop off" the network and I would have to use the remote to get it to reconnect; but replacing the switch cured that problem.

I'm using an iPhone 6+ and iPad Air 2 both running the latest iOS 11 Public Beta and the Naim App beta.  Excepting the occasional drop out / stopping of playing on Tidal which I can accept / put down to internet drop outs I find everything stable.  Naim equipment is a NAC-N 272 and UnitiQute upgraded with 24/192 board.

Now I have reasonably good (though not state of the art) wired connections through a combination of Netgear and Cisco / Linksys switches and using an Airport Extreme for WiFi.  The server is a old Dell PC running Vortexbox with Minimserver installed.

Now this isn't intended to show off or trying to minimise the frustrations of those when things don't work; simply to say the Naim App does work when everything else is working.  There is probably some irony though in the fact that the people who have the more reliable networking are probably those who are more likely to be using the beta versions and feed back issues to Naim.

Oh and I don't think the app is perfect or anything ... for one thing there needs to be a "Home" button on the UPnP browsing.

Posted on: 23 August 2017 by L_H

Well, Naim - I know the route cause of the Atom switching from UPnP to a BT source. How this wasn't picked up in UAT I don't know. I'm guessing that it's because it was closed door internal UAT as the hardware was not given to the beta testing team externally. I suggest Naim that you recruit more testers now you have released the kit or you'll be in a while host of pain as you release new products and software updates.

There's a Correlation but different distinction between Firmware and the app, the the capability of the hardware to allow the software to be written for additional features. There needs to be two lists: Nice to have features and conceptual idea programs for feature development and enhancement, the other being the 'broken' elements of the code in both S/W and F/W.

It gets too messy that way.  Best to report any issues directly to Naim via e-mail together with as much info as possible regarding o/s etc... support@naimaudio.com

Just came home and again no rooms found. I am at my end with this. Tomorrow i will mail Naim and hope for at least answers. But my trust now is completely gone.  A lot of money spend on expensive audio equipment and already months problems and updates and more problems. This is not normal and if i see the complaints Naim schould give us the option to go back to he old app. I did not sign up for beta testing but feel that i am beta testing. Now Englisch is not my mother tongue but i feel that Naim is underestimating the app problems and makes me feel that we are a minorty with the app problems. Last week a friend was in a audio store and there was a new Naim product and they could not get working. So Naim become serious and give us a answers for our problems. Now again no music. I can understand the story from a Naim owner who said that he is getting to the point to trow it out of the window. I am coming close. And every time i reach out to Naim and give them room to solve it and sometimes solutions were offered. But the least months service is not as it schould be. I still have some trust but answers schould be fast and to solve our app problems. Feel a little bit beter after venting my problems and concerns.

Did you do all the things that were suggested earlier today?

Posted on: 23 August 2017 by David Hendon

As HH says, we made some suggestions. Killing and restarting the app takes a few seconds and so far has always worked for me.

Yes ofcourse i did. If i hear one more time network problems i will become very iritated. The app gives the problems. Old app was always working. Last two apps only problems. Again it worked with out problems for years

Posted on: 23 August 2017 by hungryhalibut

It sounds like you are very irritated already, but please don't take it out on those trying to help.  I see that it must be driving you potty, and I'm sorry I can't think of anything else to suggest.

Weird then because I'm having no problems with this app.  iPad pro iOS 10.3.3 and a small iPad Retina, same iOS version.  If there was a significant flaw in the app, wouldn't we all experience it given iPads are basically all the same?

Posted on: 23 August 2017 by hungryhalibut

As you say, it's weird. I use it on my manky five year old iPad and my iPhone SE and have had no problems. So how can the app be faulty? Perhaps there is a technical reason why, but it's beyond me.

Posted on: 23 August 2017 by CP62

After one hour power off its working again app finds room. It schould work as before . People are not buying high end audio to keep thinkering with it . If i  put it on it should work.

But for me the feeling that i should look elswhere is strong. But if it works it makes me smile. But because of the problems with app or network or others things the pleasure of owing Naim is getting less. I do not mind paying premium prices for high end but it should work. I am getting tired of this.

Yes its weird all right.  OK I admit as a beta tester I've had problems & probably more than most,  but none were show stoppers & nothing like CP62 appears to be having.   Only this afternoon I had someone drop in to have a play with my NAS,  he's considering what to go for.  As it happens he has a brand new iPhone & he also bought along his iPad,  both are on iOS 10.3.3 which I believe is the latest.   he loaded the Naim app on both & they both found the NDX & worked perfectly.          I suspect this problem may be in network and/or wifi hub.
