Great Movie Soundtracks

Posted by: Bert Schurink on 08 September 2017

I just realized that I don't have an extensive collection of movie soundtracks. While I like the music of movies in quite a number of cases. Examples like the last emperor, gladiator, etc....

What is you favorite list of Soundtracks. And do you have also a recommendation for something which wouldn't be on every-bodies list.

If you like classic film scores some of the Chandos releases (mostly of British music) with the BBC Phil are worth checking out.

Woody Allen's "Sweet and Lowdown" was the first movie that motivated me to buy a soundtrack.

I forgot a few notables - Lawrence of Arabia for one..

The Jungle Book for two..

and last but not least this wonderful soundtrack that gets a fairly regular spin on the turntable...

Walton's "Battle in the Air" is a real highlight and really evokes the feeling of witnessing a battle of Britain dogfight.

I got a lot of Great feedback on my originaliteit question. The list of to buy has just gotten much bigger. However I will not pursue with so much vigor as I have done before,.....I will spread it a bit more over time...

For the sountrack itself, I’d add Midnight Express, music by Giorgio Moroder:

For a collection of great songs in a film, I’d go for About Time (including Into My Arms - Nick Cave; The Luckiest - Ben Folds; and the magnificent Il Mondo - Jimmy Fontana):

[Ahem, a hat tip to ‘Yellow Submarine’?]

Think I need to get this album to spook myself.

Penderecki and Ligeti tunes are particularly great.

Bitter sweet Francis Lai stuff was huge late 60s-early 70s. Remember them well growing up.

Here was another mega hit.
