Atom, Nova refuses to play Tidal - Solution

Posted by: Simon Frequency on 09 September 2017

If you have been unable to get your Atom or Nova to play Tidal read on this may help you.

My Atom has been great, however whilst everything worked, the App could see my Tidal account and music, however when I press play on the App nothing would happen (just to confirm Tidal worked fine on my NDS).

Follow work with my dealer and Naim support, we found the cause and solution was easy.

My Tidal password used a part of the extended character set e.g. !"£$%^&*#, by resetting the password to just upper and lower case A-Z and number characters, the Atom and Nova played Tidal without any problems.

If you find yourself in this place then try a Tidal password reset to use the core character set and see it this fixes it.

I have raised this a issue with Naim.

Thanks Simon for posting this.  It could well be useful for others having the same issue.

Hi all,

i've encoutered the same problem that my Atom cannot not play Tidal tracks. I think it has something to do with my username/email address because it has a plus character in it.

I've no sulotion to this for now. I have contacted Tidal but my username couldn't be changed and i need to make a new account and have to wait for 1 month until my current account will be inactive, so i have to pay for a full month hifi and i cannot use it on my Atom.

regards,

Dennie

Possibly related, but my Atom stopped playing Tidal but the latest firmware upgrade fixed it.

Hi [@mention:71962434623397980],

I fully understand your problem of Tidal userid/passwords failing to pass through the Naim App. The user name issue has been flags up to the Naim development team via the Beta test group.

I am sure that you will have thought of this, however just in case you have not, the way I overcame playing Tidal was to use Chromecast. You play Tidal on your iPhone and then select Chromecast option and select the Atom as the device to play to. As if by magic the Atom starts to play. If you need more details, just reply here and I will send you a screen shot of where the Chromecast option is hidden. This is how I played Tidal on my Atom until I sorted out the password problem.

SQ will be a little bit lower, however this is much better than silence
