Unbelievable bargain

Posted by: JedT on 14 September 2017

Over the last 20 years I've bought Naim equipment both new from dealers and used. I'm not a serial upgrader but have spent money infrequently to achieve something specific then changed little for a few years.

Anyway, I'd owned a NAP 180 since I bought it second hand in, I think, 2003. Clearly it was (over)due a service but still sounded good to me. Rather than send it away I decided to buy a recently serviced (olive) 250 and sell the 180. I've just packed it and wished it a fond farewell. Sold it (unserviced) for exactly what I paid in 2003.

Where in the world can you get VFM like this?

Clearly a testament to the quality of the original design and build plus Naim's fantastic support for legacy kit.

The price of new Naim always makes me gulp a bit. But the reassurance that there will always be an aftermarket and the "blended" VFM that comes from a mixture of used and new means I'll inevitably be back at my dealer at some point.

Historically I have done well selling my Naim gear on the SH market when the time came...my current dealer was even impressed with what I got for many of my components (particularly when I sold my original Olive kit) and he tends to price pretty high on the used market. Point is, what you say is true.

Apart from the exceptional build and sound quality, I was also drawn to the naim brand because of the excellent residual values.

Most electrical equipment is worthless within a year or two, if it's a TV then probably less then that.

So the naim aftermarket is reassuring,  especially if one is looking for a lower cost upgrade..

I'm sure you will be very happy with your new acquisition..

They have even given me wiring diagrams for basic component replacement (input selector switch) for a CB nac42.5.

Anything more advanced I send to naim, recently my naxo, and soon my naps.

Expensive, but warming to know it's been done right.

Ah yes, Nait 1 and Nait 2 price escalation even tops house price inflation! Now if only I'd bought 100 of them...

So you lose 50 % of the CD 555 after 5 years.

I think the downturn in CD popularity is a big factor.

A good amp will always be a good amp.

And in 20 years there'll be a CD revival

In February of 2015, picked up an 2008 Mk I, Cdx2.

The Mk 2, hit the Market in 2009, I think!

US Msrp Cdx2~ $ 7,495.

Cdx2 VAM 1250 ~ 2002

Cdx2 VAM 1202 ~ 2006

Cdx2.2  VAM 1202 ~ 2009

Hence, I targeted the 2008, despite some Forum Members favored the rubber o ring 1250 Version.

Did a little research, and discovered, the repair cost was considerably more for the VAM 1250.

Furthermore, Naim must Market it products According to the Exchange Rate!

Msrp Cdx2 ~ $ 7.5 K USD

Msrp Cdx2 ~ $ 4.6 K GB

With that being said, Naim's Canadian pricing was a little late, and the window was perfect timing!

I drove to Canada, picked my Cdx2 up for $1.7K!

I would imagine, I could fetch that now!

But Why!  She sounds Great!

Allante93!

PS. Still a Great Bargain, even when I factor in replacement of optic laser lens!

Had that done this February.

Audio Plus, Naim's North America repair Facility.

Now 1250 VAM, a different story$$$$!

Excellent deals on dealer trade-ins and ex-dems has been the only way that I've been able to get my current set-up.
