There's hope

My son has a combined 19th b'day and farewell party - he's going away to study in England (Loughborough). 15 young people are in my living room, enthusiastically going through my 70s/80s vinyl, for the past one hour listening to Dire Straits on the main system of Naim XS + Audio Physics Tempo VI. I didn't expect that at all. There's hope for mankind.

Loughborough Uni is great. Henry, my youngest, is studying Maths there and loves it.

Every now and again I see this among young people and I like it. I know a young lady who is about 23 and her favorite artist is Neil Young.  My 25 year old niece is a huge Jethro Tull fan. I think it is cool when they can see the quality of "old" music!

I'm really impressed, because my son never expressed interest in hi-end audio (I did try to talk him into choosing a small stereo setup for his room as b'day present, he chose some air soft gun thingy... being a child of the 60s and a hard core pacifist I prefer not to think about it). A smartphone with MP3s and earbuds is all he needs. But here he and his friends are commenting on how great the big system sounds and are playing music for the 5th hour now, ALL of it MY generation's music! David Bowie is on now. Amazing.
