Granite slabs under speakers?

Posted by: Bob the Builder on 19 September 2017

I have a carpeted suspended wooden floor and so put Granite slabs under my Dynaudio floorstanders to protect the carpet and to try and help tune the bass.

This morning because I couldn't get at the dust beneath the speaker's I lifted the speakers off and and then decided to try the system without the Granite and got a very pleasant surprise better clarity and separation it is as if the Granite deadened the sound a bit.

So you're only running one channel into the sub??

Yes, that's right. He needs to read what I wrote on his 300 thread yesterday.

Yes, potentially missing out on part of the sub bass if it happens to be associated with an instrument that's on the 'other' side of the mix.

I'm going line level (speaker wire) to rca on my sub as it has has no line level inputs.  Left speaker to left rca (mono) socket fine. When I tried connecting both speakers wires to the left (mono) rca input nasty electrical noise if I try connecting left speaker wire to left rca input and right speaker wire to right rca input in stereo nasty electrical noise  Just right speaker line level to right rca fine or right to left or left to right all fine

So I'm happy with just one channel on the sub at the moment. Until I find a better solution,

I’m pretty sure that the line level phono inputs should be receiving low level line outputs, rather than high level speaker outputs. That is probably why you have to set the woofer to almost no volume. It’s certainly not a good idea.

Yes you are right HH I have just ordered  high to low level converter.

That’s good. Please don’t think I was going on at you, I just didn’t want you to damage anything, especially your lovely new 300.

I have my REL sub connected at the speaker end. The supplied three core cable (2 to left speaker 1 to right) under the screw down terminals and the main cables from amplifier  banana plugs. I split the three core cable to suit the distance the speakers are apart (with a bit of wriggle room).
