PowerLine or...?

Wanting to begin upgrading power cables I wonder if I should go for PowerLine or others.

Looking forward to your experiences. Thanks!

Power line every time, and go for the full fat version, not the cheaper lite version

Thanks! Which mains block do you use for them?

Have you already got dedicated mains? Have you got a good stand? Have you thought of DRing your power amp? All will be more beneficial than a power line.

I have dedicated mains, a FurutechFT-SWS NCF (R) waiting to be installed and my 250.2 is due to return from re-capping and DR-upgrade tomorrow. Everything on a Fraim.

Super. So get some power lines. If you can have multiple mains sockets it’s better than a power block. Nice city, Vienna.

That's a lot of system you have there, don't use a powerline on other than the Naim components and start with the digital source unless you're serving from it, then I don't know if the client is the best place for it. (I was told off by a forum member for being imprecise with my terms around the subject of streaming using streamer for either the client or server so I've tried to avoid the trem this time).

I certainly agree with HH. I have Rega RP10/Aphelion + Aria, CDX2, nDAC +XPS DR, 282+SC DR, 300 DR into Focal Sopra N2. I did the others plus socket ordering in my bank of 5 unstitched doubles and cable dressing first.

I tried PowerLines but found that having them everywhere did not work SQ wise. Later I found the XPS DR and Aria benefited (but I preferred Isotek Optimum). I also found the PL Lite worked briallantly on the SC DR and 282 NAPSC, which should be kept away from everything else as much as possible.

Powercords take a long time to run in so patience is needed, but get them on loan. If you do it incrementally beware that one may sound good but the sound does not get proportionately better as you add more and in my case it got worse.

The icing on the cake for me has been the full SL loom.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I use the Powerigel Plus as made by the German distributor. If you can get it in Austria nice and a good match for your Furutech socket. The Powerline fitted Netzleiste Plus is well regarded, but I haven't tried it therefore no opinion from me.

Wow, that was fast! One Naim owner from a Naim forum recommends and tells you get the Powerlines and you don't even consider other options.

Why ask the question if you mind is obviously closed to other alternatives?

I do consider other options. I only wanted to know where the power lines are plugged in. So I don't know why you think i already have decided.

So what do you suggest?

At the moment suggested are:

  • Powerline
  • Isotek Optimum

Is it just this pricerange you are interested in? These cables seem to be quite expensive - at least for me.

It may be worth to check out Chord, I am not sure about the names of the not so expensiv models in the current range. If you can find a dealer that stocks Ansuz the X cable may also be worth checking out. I am going to listen to one of the more expensive power cables in a few weeks, from wall to mains block, and that is going to be really interesting!

+1 for the PowerIgel. Good SQ, no cable clutter. Very happy user!!

Apart from the Powerline, i would suggest you also try the TQ range?  As has been suggested have them on loan from your dealer and see how they work in your system.

Nordost solution was also a very good improvement on my system. QB8+Frey 2 and all the system gets better. Even with classic naim power cables.

I use Running Springs Audio HZ's to my Supercap and NAP300 PS, love what it bring over all the other cords I've tried.  Most seemed to give you pitch black backgrounds, at the expense of decreased emotional involvement and PRAT.  The two reasons I run Naim.

What about the hundreds of metre cables in our walls ?

There might be a niche business opportunity hidden in there..

So you mean PowerLine to the XPS2 of the nDAC first?

I also heard great things about the Powerigel. The Plus must be great but a litte expensive at the moment. And I prefer flexibility.

Yesterday I got lots of stuff to play with:

First I tried a SwissCables mains block with a SwissCables Evolution. Wow I thought, never heard such a change in my system. It was too much for my taste.

Then I tried the Netzleiste Plus: Emotion was back again and lots of details stayed from the SwissCables.

Next the Vibex Granada. Did not want to try it because of the price and was afraid it would be the best choice. Sounded great and calm but something I can't describe stood between the music and me.

The Vibex 7R I wanted to try. Once with Vibex cable, once with PL. Not bat, but more "harsh" and much of the bass was gone.

I think there's a reason to match naim boxes with their accessories. ;-)

Love the Netzleiste Plus.

Sure. A MeiCord Opal is already waiting to be put into the wall.

Terribly hard to get on loan here. But ordered a Black Diamond BNC/BNC from Germany to try on the nDAC.

I don't see a stand alone DAC in your profile, I was referring to the HDX rather than its ps though it's worth trying it on either, It was very worth it on a Core feeding a DAC and earlier on a CD5x despite its FC2x. Borrow one and move it around the system, even the PSC, and listen to what it does, if you can hear anything. With a system that complex with all that AV stuff hanging off it it's rather hard to predict.
