Problems with music library

Posted by: Minky on 23 September 2017

Hi,

Has anyone had the problem where, when you select an album on the app, you get "No Results" in the track listing, and when you click "Properties" in the Desktop Client on the album you get an error saying "Invalid Parameter supplied, Parameter name : Address" ? Have this problem with a bunch of my favourite albums.

The directory seems fine, and the tracks play in media player.  Re-scanned many times.

What is the NAS brand & with what UPnP media server software.   When I had 'No Results' a while back I fixed it by something quite simple ,   Can't remember exactly but it was either running a sequential system reboot or Clearing the cache's

Like in the old world have you tried restarting all. Your Naim app, the  Nas and your stream. Sometimes these simple methods are the best to resolve problems like this.

Also had once a network cable a bit loose...

Since the dtc is in there it must be one of the old servers. No I have never experienced that. However if it is a download the server is very unforgiven about what  it sees as wrong tags, but this usually just results in an album not showing up at all.

Are these CD rips made on your Naim ripper/server? Has the online lookup successfully found the album and added metadata to it?

Thanks for the replies.

It's an original Uniti-Serve with the library on a Synology NAS and it's with rips made with the server. I did multiple restarts and scans and a few of the bad albums came back to life, but not all of them which suggests that it's not the data, but an intermittent problem with the scanning process on the server.

Does the new Uniti-Serve solve any of the flakiness that I've always had with streaming ?

I've found that Unitiserve CD rips can take a long time to show up in either the Naim app or N-Serve, or both (I don't use the DTC.) This seems to be quite random, and I have a suspicion it could be network related, in which case it could be further compounded for you as you use an external music store.

Something you could try to start with is a full network restart, i.e. turn off everything on your LAN. Then turn the router back on, and wait a couple of minutes. Then start each other device, one by one. Then get your US to rescan your music library. Finally, clear the UPnP cache on the Naim app.

I can't promise that the above will solve your problem, but you have nothing to lose by trying!

When you say 'new Unitiserve', do you mean the Core, or just a US that is newer than yours? If your US is old, you might check that the firmware is up to date, but that's about all. Good luck!

Thanks Chris.

After resetting everything the album that I got back has now disappeared completely.

Another question : What is the current wisdom on how to store your music ? I use a NAS because I was told that it "sounded better" but I suspect a lot of the issues I am having would be resolved if I used USB.

Naim streamers are 'network' players, and really need a NAS, as they don't have a proper USB interface. A USB memory stick will work fine, but the input is not suitable for browsing and playing a large library.

Once a NAS is properly set up on your network, using it 'should' be trouble free. I would suggest that you give Naim support a call, they are pretty good at resolving issues like yours.

As you have a Synology NAS and an NDS, why not forget about the UnitiServe and use the Synology Media Server built into the Synology.

Export all your music from the UnitiServe to FLAC in the /music folder on the NAS.
Then get the NAS to reindex itself.

Browse & play all your music using the Naim App use the UPnP input of the NDS.

Over a period of time you can then convert the FLAC files on the Synology from FLAC to WAVE files and the SQ will improve a bit.
