Naim Mu-So: Tidal is Stopping Playback

Posted by: PrazVT on 30 September 2017

Hi All.  Anyone else w/ a Mu-So suddenly getting Tidal issues?  As of this morning, Tidal is pausing mid playback and doesn't resume unless I hit play again on the app.  I'm experiencing this when using both the Android and iPod Touch apps (not sure the apps have anything to do with it).  I've reset the Mu-So and apps, but it's still happening.

Mu-So is hardwired to the local LAN and I've got a gigabit fiber connection that seems to be fine.  Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Praz

Start by powering down and up all the network components.

Switch on sequence: modem > router > switch.

Okay - just reset both the modem and the routers.  Will test it out and see if that helps.

routers  ????   more than one.   You had better tell us all,   the make/models of it all & how you've got it set up.

First off, rebooting everything didn't help unfortunately.  I'm able to play Tidal via desktop app and mobile apps w/o no issues.  Just seems to be the Mu-So.  And it's been fine ever since the last major firmware update that fixed the original Tidal drop-out issues.  Outside of the usual Android app updates, not much has changed.  I did switch from 200Mbps Xfinity internet to ATT fiber internet a few months back, but again, the Tidal issue just started today.

Network-wise,  my home has ethernet ports in most rooms.  The fiber modem is connected to the main router (Asus RT-AC88U) that does all the DHCP, port forwarding, DDNS, etc.), and the ethernet cables leading to each room are plugged into that router.

I have a 2nd Asus RT-AC68U router in my room running in AP mode and several devices (including the Mu-So) are connected to it.  That router is connected to the wall ethernet port.  TLDR; the Mu-So is hard-wired to the LAN.  2nd router is there to just ensure there's high bandwidth AC signal throughout the house and has the same SSID.  Not sure if all that is relevant, but that is the setup (excluding some additional gigabit switches in various rooms).

Maybe Tidal changed something technical that's screwing up the Mu-So again?

Which device does the DHCP? Is there a potential conflict with another one?

can you get iRadio to play?

The router connected to the modem does DHCP.  2nd is in WiFi AP mode so it doesn't do anything aside from extending the wifi network and acting as a plain switch.

I will try WiFi on the mu so to check if it's an Ethernet issue.

So it's still happening; I noticed some talk about latency spikes causing Tidal drop-outs.  Is that something I should look at?  What would I even do about it?

I have been having similar problems with streaming Tidal through Mu-sos all weekend. Rebooting everything did not help. Other streaming services are not affected.

Yeah it's just the Mu So in my case.  I airplayed Tidal from my HTC U11 to the Mu So and there were no issues.  But The Mu So itself will just stop playing Tidal after a few minutes or after a few songs.  Very aggravating.  I may drop support an e-mail about it, but based on other discussions on the topic I've seen here, not sure if they'll have any concrete solutions.
