Call this an off the wall question, but if you went through your entire collection and selected your favourite tracks and added them to a playlist, what would the number of tracks in your playlist be?
For the past hour and a half, I’ve been going through about 1.5Tb of Music and adding the best tracks to a collective playlist. (Ok, this is a flawed system as I like all genres but jazz and heavy metal, making the playlist strange, so I avoided all classical and electronic pieces.)
Bizarrely, the compilation is only 191 in number.
(And I don’t mind appearing sad in doing this, as I have a poorly baby sleeping on me!!)

Mostly I think of my music in terms of albums and play them that way, not individual tracks, so for me such a compilation would be just of the odd things where I have only liked one or two individual songs/pieces some artist has done - and indeed I do have an 'album' comprising such things, currently containing about 30 tracks. I can think of various other things I could/should add to it when I get around to it, subject to finding a source (not buying whole albums for only one track unless it is important to me).
I have no idea how many individual tracks I'd pull out of my collection if I were to go through it pulling out favourite things, but you must have a quicker brain and keyboard skills than I, as I think it would take considerably more than 1.5 hours to go through my sub-1TB collection!

I reckon I'd have about 10% of my total number of tracks in my favourites folder. When I batch-converted my music into MP3 to play on my iPod that's roughly what I ended up with, although I was quite generous with 5 stars in iTunes and didn't have the will or time to rate anything between 5* and 0*.
The disc I'd save from the waves? Easy. "This Is What She's Like" by Dexys Midnight Runners. When the call comes, as it surely will, from Desert Island Discs, I'll be ready...
