RIP Tom Petty

It would appear that Tom Petty has passed away after a heart attack. If confirmed then this is dreadfully sad news and another legend lost to us at too young an age, I was lucky enough to watch Tom in London a few months ago; we'd gone to see Stevie Nicks who my wife loves but Tom blew her off stage. He is a great loss to those of us who love rock music.
Absolutely stunned by this news. Saw him numerous times throughout the years including his first UK tour when he blew Nils Lofgren off the stage. May he rest in peace and thank you for all the wonderful music over the years.

Just seen this reported on the news too. Tragic and very very sad. RIP Tom and thank you for many of the soundtracks of my life.
Dreadful, he was 66
Tom Petty was one of the top artists of his time. He bridged the gap from old school to 70's rock thru today. He will be missed greatly. RIP
Wow - another big loss for music, and this one not expected, at least by me.
At 66 with no warning is tragic.

Hold it folks it seems he may be clinging to life at the moment. Apprently according to the LAPD site he is on life support and they are not clarifying that he has died. CBS have pulled the story saying he had died.
The first concert I took my daughter and two nephews was a Tom Petty Concert playing at the Starplex in Dallas, Tx in April of 1995. It was a great night, seems like yesterday and its hard to believe that Tom passed at the age of 66. Sending along a good thought for his family and friends.

Seems to be some confusion, police pulling their original statement but the Travelling Wilburies released a statement saying he has passed. I truly hope he hasn't but I'd be surprised based on the amount of noise all over the net

the Beeb have pulled their story too but still up on several others. I hope he is ok.
Well if he will still have a functioning mind then yes I hope he pulls through. If not, then may he rest in peace.
The most recent information is still unclear and apparently no official death proclamation has been issued. Confusion in the Twitter age when everyone wants to be first to report. Keeping my fingers crossed for Tom while awaiting some definitive news. Let's all play some of his music in the mean time.
It appears that he passed away a short time ago (9 p.m. West coast time), according to his manager. RIP.
UPDATE: New LA Times story says he passed away at 8:40 p.m.

Heard the nears as I woke up this morning, I am truly saddened.
Such a great musician and man.

Just heard the sad news of Tom Petty's death this morning. Another musician taken from us way too early, thanks for all the music Tom.
