Track list order in Twonky Server

Posted by: AMA on 24 August 2011

I'm running a Twonky Server.

The tracks are automatically sorted in alphabetical order.

How can I force them to show up in original order?

You need to load the twonky server tools in your browser and change from in there.

I go to the Twonky Setup through the web but I don's see any settings for tracks order.

Where are you running twonkey server from?

iirc earlier versions of Twonky did have issues with track order being alphabetical - why not try a different server, like Asset for example?

Presumably this twonky is the latest available, there are a fair number of posts about the web suggesting there was an issue at the end of 2010.

Regardless there are settings in 'first steps' for how the navigation tree appears. Sadly I am not running a PC version anymore as its on my QNAP, so there are less choices.

likesmusic, I'm currently evaluating Asset on the same PC.

Unlike Twonky it shows the tracks in the right order.

But surprisingly it's much slower in navigation and launching the tracks

Both Twonky and Asset periodically go on rebuffering which is frustrating.

Both are on 30-days trials -- can this be an issue?

What I don't like with Asset is that it does not avail full features in trial installation: like, for example, navigation by Files/Folders (which is for me is the ONLY way I navigate my music library).

In parallel I'm running a Logitech SlimServer -- the same PC, the same music folder, but streaming by Logitech Transporter. This setup works for months without going off even for a second....

And navigation is instantaneous.

Try J River - it has some superb features, and also works as a UPnP server. Not sure it does gapless though.  Might not matter to you. The rebuffering issue suggests there's something else wrong with your configuration - it just shouldn't happen.

And why don't you just pay for Asset? It is a tiny amount of money compared to what you have spent on hardware!

Agree with you about Slimserver though - Sean knew what he was doing.

As a software developer I put a low value to SW comparing to HW

I want to try SqueezyDS -- a plug-in for SlimServer which makes Linn DS to see SlimServer and stream from it.

Hi AMA,

I had the same problem with the Twonky version on my NAS. Look at the QNAP forums specifically on topics stating "customizing the navigation tree" or similar - I found a topic from a guy providing ready config files with different browsing options. I used and customized them and now I'm happy with my Twonky - I even constructed my own view with Genre by Composers, which is useful for classical music. AFAIK this problem is targeted to the v5 versions of Twonky, but I'm not sure if it has been fix in v6 due to the fact that in v6 the configuration can be done by the end user via the browser. Unfortunately, I can't help you here because I don't have this version, but may be this link can help further:

Hi AMA

I would agree something does not seem right with your config: of Asset server.

I am almost certain that the trial version (30 day) is the full version without restriction.

I haven’t got it on my machine at this time, experimenting like yourself at the moment, but if you open the config: page and click edit, you can alter or setup the browse tree as you wish. From memory I think there is a selection box under the tree structure, click to extend and I think you can add files & folders from there.
