Florence - New Album - 7/11/11

Apparently there are two versions.
Chris,
I am looking forward to the new album on vinyl.
I had enough of the old one, months and months and months ago.
Stu
Candi Staton > Florence:
^ An end of night Cream tune, if ever there was one.
I got her CD only last month. I do enjoy not only the music but her very odd sense of humor.
But I have to say her screeching voice tests my ears at times.
Just heard the Title track, What the Water Gave Me, from Florence, on Radio Paradise. I quite liked it.
Her (their) first album did nothing for me I have to admit.
Has anyone got the new one yet?
I bought the 1st one based on the Later performance and some festival footage but the album was produced to death. Is the new one any better?
I have the vinyl version (and digital version) and think it is an excellent record, but it took a couple of listens to reach that conclusion. Florence Leontine Mary Welch is one of the brighter talents in popular music these days. However, I like Lungs too, so it was on the cards that I'd grow to like Ceremonials.
Yes once again a lot of work has gone in to the production, which you like or not - I like it as it takes away the rawness I associate with live recordings (I find very few live records enjoyable). It's good production in the 10CC quality sense, not overblown in the Phil Spectre (sic) sense (little bit of controversy coming in there).
So is the new one any better? Probably not.
Is it one of the better albums of the year? Yes definitely.
It makes a nice change from all those immersion type re-releases;
now where's my 40th anniversary Aqualung record.
Well it's ordered (on vinyl as the first one was), here's to the triumph of hope over experience.
I ordered mine (CD) on Amazon, just before it was released, so have had it a few days now.
Its NOT Lungs II, but why should it be... I have it in the car, which I find a great way to get into an album. Some of the tracks are getting inside my head already, so I am definitely getting to like it...!! It does take more than 1 play - its not as instant as Lungs, but IMHO its still very good.
So, another play tomorrow - or Radio 4... Hmm... Probably Florence then...
(apologies to John Humphries & co..)
However, had it on preorder on Amazon and had it on the day after release. It was on my daughter's iPod by the next morning earning her kudos with school mates and making me a "cool" dad. Worth every penny of the £11.99 paid!
