N272 - XPS dead
Posted by: Monkadill on 06 October 2017
Turned on my N272 - XPXDR and it doesn't power up, it also doesn't power up if I power up the N272 in isolation of the XPSDR. Ive changed the plug fuse, no change. Any advice is welcome.
Have you checked the internal fuses?
no, is that easy to do?
Yes it is. The fuse carrier is next to the iec inlet at the rear. But the 272 fuse shouldn’t have blown if it was powered by the xps.
Did you disconnect the burndy, re fit the link plug and then try powering up the 272?
I did try and power up the 272 on its own, nothing. Its dead
Does the xps power up?
the XPS doesn't power up either
Have you checked the fuse or mcb that feeds the hifi circuit?

Please can you tell me how this is done
The XPS can be a little.... delicate, wrt its internal fuse. Suggest you put a new fuse into the XPS's fuse holder (at the back of the XPS where the IEC mains lead plugs in). It needs to be the correct fuse for an XPS. Then try the XPS again, on its own.
If you are unsure or unclear - contact your Naim dealer. Your replies are worrying.....
IMO, this is probably just a blown XPS fuse.

If you have a dedicated circuit your installer should have labeled it as such. Alternatively you could unplug 272 and xps and plug something which you know works, Tv, Radio, lamp etc, in to that socket and see what happens. If nothing, the circuit is dead, fuse or mcb issue. If it does work then it’s a box issue.
I placed the fuses from the N250DR into the XPSDR and it works, so its the Naim fuse has blown. What voltage fuses should the XP's have as replacement (I intend to get NAIM ones)
With regards to safety: please contact your frendly Naim dealer, he should be able to provide you the correct fuse ...
There should be a spare in the fuse carrier
That comes up as a HIFi timing fuse. Don’t use that. Search for naim internal fuse on the Analogue seduction site and get the correct rating for the XPS
If you look on the back of the xps it will tell you the correct rating of fuse. This will depend on your mains voltage in the country you live in.

Exactly. And if not, the rating is printed on the rear label. It is imperative that you replace with a fuse of the exact same make, type and rating. Your Naim dealer should be able to supply.

ah..which one is the spare?
The one that has the wire in the middle in tact. The glass on the blown fuse may be darker.

The missing part of the jigsaw - thanks, sorted and new spares ordered!
Spare part number is T2.5A, 250V
Thanks for all the replys
On a side note, which order should my system be started, I have a N272- XPSDR and NAP250DR?
Xps then 250

cheers
You’re welcome. Have a good weekend

Again, the FAQ to the rescue...
Last time this happened to me my dealer reminded me that the fuse is directional - I think with the kite mark facing upwards. Not that I've experimented though!
