Brand new Atom, Remote won't pair.

Posted by: bencrosby on 12 October 2017

So I have a brand new atom. Fresh out of the box.

The remote won't pair. Pushing any button on the remote causes the remote ring to blink twice.

The atom itself is stuck on "Choose Language".

This is not a good customer experience. What do I do next ?

Have you tried using the Naim app?

Haven't even done the network setup yet. The app doesn't find the Atom.

I assume you are following the instructions to hold the remote close to the front of the Atom and pressing the remote’s home button for three seconds. If it won’t work, try turning the Atom off, leave it for a minute, then on again. Then do the pairing again. I’ve no idea if this will work, but it’s the best I can think of.

Thanks for the suggestions... I was following the instructions

I've subsequently taken the batteries out of the remote. I'm leaving the whole lot for a quiet reflection over a glass of wine. Then I'll go back and try again

I had assumed there would be a way to factory reset the Atom, which must think the remote is connected. There doesn't appear to be such a thing.

Naim customer services will be able to help and I like your style a glass of wine at 7.30 am. When I used to work nights I would go into the off licence on my way home and buy a bottle of red to get me to sleep. I once bumped into an old teacher who looked at me with great pity until  I explained.

Docklands VIC sounds like he might be the other side of the world so end of day wine not end of night wine maybe?

I think you reset the Atom through the remote not the app, but anyway you shouldn't have to reset a new unit.

HH's suggestions together with your idea of taking batteries out of the remote are the best first go.  Apart from contacting Naim, the other thing would be to take the Atom and remote back to the dealer and get them to do it.

best

Thank something on Friday 13th for a bottle of Aussie Shiraz and a bit of blind luck.

Batteries back into remote, power on Atom, held down home key for literally about two minutes before it finally paired !

Not a great experience, but I’m all into Roon just now, and the recent annoucement was enough for the impulse buy of the Atom.

A pair of 1T Samsung Pro SSDs into my Synology rackstation, installed the core, and off we go. No need for the Uniti Core now, which I am pretty happy about, since that’s half a Nova for another room down the line.

Two other comments - AU/NZ has no power line lite. A remarkably cheap and s*i*ty home-made piggyback IEC in the box instead. Joys. And the exposed IDC connector on the back where the HDMI port could be, that’s pretty cra**y too.

Thank the musical gods for smiling on my Zigbee problems.

And the Shiraz.

Cheers.

It’s great that you got it working. Setting aside the issues about the lead and the socket, do you like the sound? I heard one at my local dealer and thought it was excellent.

I’m pretty happy with the sound. Subjectively, I need more time to play around.

My dealer warned me that my Atom would sound like crap for the first 24 hours, then start to perform properly, and he was right. After a day of leaving it on most of the time, and feeling slightly underwhelmed, it now sounds pretty impressive.

No such thing as a PowerLine Lite downunder. The UK wall plug is not much use down here. The info is clear that the PowerlIne Lite is for "UK denominations only". The supplied plug is well tested for local use and supplied in the box, I believe, by Naim UK.

Ben ,it is designed to be left switched on, just put into standby mode and a smaller linear power supply keeps the electronics ready. When you activate again by App or remote the main power supply kicks in.
