Mojo/poly
Posted by: jon h on 20 October 2017
Am contemplating adding a poly to my mojo. That would make a roon endpoint, I think? Anyone done this?
I assume its an acronym for Digital Audio Player, which I think are the non-phone successors to iPods, some combining a pair of built-in microphones for location recording.

Welcome to the world of portable audio
For me, not yet
i just use an iPad or IPhone, direct into headphones. Not hifi, but music. However it is a real pain in the whatsit choosing the music I want in advance, converting to lossy format to fit in the insifficient memory - and morst of all, having to use Apple's crappy protocols not just copy and paste. (How I hate iTunes!). Better than nothing on a
Long journey, but I would like real hifi sound - however I don't do that sufficiently to justify many £100s just for mobile use.

a dap is far more convenient on the move and its not a home device
all it does replace a usb cable for a big price tag
What do i miss?
A fundamental part of the answer depends on how good it is as a renderer. If truly excellent then its price is not bad.
And coupled with Mojo, a rather excellent DAP for its cost, it is supposed to provide true hifi quality music play, including hi res play.
From a different angle, with a micro SD card it is also a music store, capacity only limited by available microSD cards ((at present up to 400GB) and, conceivably, before too long maybe as much as 1TB. My entire music collection would fit in 1TB, and as mentioned in earlier posts, the attraction to me ould be if Poly could be used with my system DAC (Dave) at home: then my entire collection could sit inside Poly, and when I do want to travel just pick it up and plug into Mojo and a pair of headphones, and I'd have all my music with me, and the same library software as familiar with at home.
You need your phone to control it and the software is third Party that you need to pay, it Will drain your phone battery very fast
i use 272 so no need for a mojo in my home setup, and going mobile with it is not convenient vs a DAP - digital audio player
there are many cost less than mojo and offer Good SQ such as fiio, which you can use offline Tidal as well
i Own mojo by the way
connected to laptop as office DAC/Amp for headphone

True I would need phone (or tablet) to control - just as I do at home, and hardly any battery usage as it is only when selecting next album (and benefit of same interface)
I use Dave at home, so no use for Mojo at home for me, and like your 272, in practical terms Dave is not portable.
Whilst DAP may be convenient, can it carry 400GB of music (hopefully 1GB within a few years)? And can it be in the same file firmat as main system, inluding highest res? And how does the sound quality of DAP compare with a Poly through Mojo, listening through top level headphones?
(This is not criticising your use of DAP, but wondering how good it actually is.)
Mojo is excellent amp\dac no questions about it but mu walkman zx2 is not so bad in my pocket for iems ör my noice cancelling bluetooth cans.. it can carry 128gb internal plus whatever you put as micro sd Same as Polly, Some daps have even have 2 microsd slot for double the Polly.... Same file formats...everything..
only difference that mojo can drive everything daps are mixed bag
There are some very Good DAPs around like new AK ör golden Sony to go head to head with any dac but with a eyewatering price tags

I thought the ZX2 sounded better than the Mojo driving my SE846s, even with the Mojo fronted by my Melco so back to Amazon the Mojo went. I'm still not sure what the Mojo / Poly is trying to achieve especially as you still need an app (and phone) to control it. Sounds like a PITA for portable use.

My ZX2 is still going strong. I haven’t compared it to the Mojo, but I wanted something self contained, independent of my phone. Great battery life, too.

But the Sony Nw ZX2 costs the same as Mojo+Poly, though admittedly for the latter you also have to have axphone available for control (which is not necessarily a problem as most people have smartphones with them, and the music player can stay in a secure pocket.)
So, a primary question will Be which sounds better?
And from the angle I was considering IF Poly were to be usable on DACs other than Mojo and has excellent sound quality suitable for primary home hifi system use, the Mojo needed to add to Poly to make it mobile is only half the cost of the ZX2.
Lontano posted:analogmusic posted:which chord cable are you using to connect it to your 552/500?
Chord made up some Chord Epic - 3.5 one end and din the other - works really well. They could not get Chord Signature into the 3.5 so this was the best cable they could do to that spec.
Thanks
I currently use chord clearway. But may either upgrade to a naim cable or a vertere one.
i am fallowing polly tread on headfi.... too many questions and problems that i even don't understand whats going on...
so i will not buy it for sure, i am too old for this, a simple DAP Sony, AK, Fiio will get the job done.
