Optimizing my set up

Posted by: No quarter on 21 October 2017

I have a couple of questions for the forum, first off,I have four Full Fraim shelves and a base.I have been waiting to get the proper hardware so that I can have a true double Fraim base.Well that is all at my dealers now,so next week I will be tearing it all down, and reassembling it with the proper double base.My components are Core/272/XPSDR/250DR,and another brand(Teac) CD/DSD player.Right now this is my stacking order:

272

Core

250DR

Teac

XPSDR

Does that stacking order sound right?I also have one set of the tall legs for the Fraim(extra),the rest are the standard level legs.Should I use the tall legs at the bottom level to get the XPS away from everything,or stick with the regular legs at the bottom,to increase stability?I do not want to take it all apart again,so want to get it set up properly.Another question for the Chord guys out there,I am also picking up a Hugo 2,to try on the system. My plan was to feed the digital out from the Core into the Hugo, then rca out from the Hugo into the 272(analog input),I do not have a rca to din cable, now after just reading on this forum,I believe it was Analogmusic, that another poster might have a ground problem, this got me thinking about my proposed setup.Do I need to set the 272 to floating, rather than my current chassis setting, when I add the Hugo?Currently the Core digital out goes directly into the 272 digital in,I just want to get the most out of what I am using, and demoing,so any help is greatly appreciated. Can I expect to hear improvement by going with the proper double Fraim base, over my current single shelf at the bottom of my stack? The Fraim is sitting on hardwood floors using Fraim chips.

I have a very similar system.  I claim no expertise but my Naim dealer recommended, top to bottom:

272 > OPPO BDP-83SE (as CD transport) and Rega Fono (share a shelf) > XPS DR > 250 DR.  The turntable is on a separate wall-mounted shelf.

Best of luck to you!

Putting the 250 farther down will be a good idea.
Preferably for the other equipment at the bottom, but it will sound better not being on the lowest shelf so if there is a free empty shelf try that.

What you place next to the Power Amp will get the biggest hit so locate your more sensitive stuff away is my suggestion.

Thanks guys,so it looks like I had the 250 and XPS reversed,I thought having the power supply as far as possible from the preamp was the way it should go.DARKE BEAR,I do not have an open shelf, but I do have a set of the tall posts, should I use them on the bottom shelf to keep the 250 as far away as possible?
