Covers, in the reverse, which one is better?

As an opposite to my other post. My Way is a song that I don't particularly enjoy, whichever rendition is played. Then there are some songs are bettered, for me Joe Cocker was a singer who could bring out the best in a song. The entire album Sheffield Steel stands out.

Way above this, for me, is his version of With a Little Help From My Friends.

What would be anyone else's suggestion?

Beth Hart - "I'd Rather Go Blind". Sorry to Etta James, but Beth nails it totally.

Ok, so I have had fun with this post, although you might argue that youtube and a Samsung tablet is not the way to investigate music. I argue that if it sounds good on the tablet it is worth listening further.

The version of I'd Rather Go Blind that was always my favourite is by Christine Perfect, from the days of Chicken Shack rather than (being totally provocative) when she joined the poorer version of Fleetwood Mac.

In the spirit of GM's post of Paul Anka covering Nirvana, Pat Boone did an entire album of metal covers including Metallica, Van Halen, Ozzy, LZ and others. Here's his swanky cover of Jimi. Put on your smoking jacket and grab a martini.

I'd better check out Christine Perfect's version!
The Beth Hart version was taken on an iPhone at Rock City by the way ;-)
